I was just driving down a slow street by the Admiral Library. The sidewalks there are very wide and very nicely paved. Still, a runner was running nearly opposing traffic nearly at my bumper and I slowed to a 3 mile PH crawl and mouthed “Please use the sidewalk”. The runner signalled with her arms that she had a shared right to the road. She just didn’t “want” to use the wide super-smooth sidewalk. What is going on in West Seattle? She was breaking the law and making stupid, righteous hand signals that made no sense. What are we going to see next, Hula Hoppers in the middle of the street demanding space to perform? There is a Law righteous Joggers! “The Seattle Municipal Code, 11.40.220, provides that “where there are sidewalks provided, no pedestrian shall move along and upon an adjacent roadway.” The state statute, RCW 46.61.250, has the same language.”

Our rusty pipes are plugging up faucets. I have screens on them but have to clean them out every couple of weeks. Had re-pipe specialists over but they seemed shady and never used them.

As a casual gamer, I appreciate Magic Red’s straightforward approach. I can play on my phone in Canada without any downloads, and the games are just as fun and responsive. The deposit process was hassle-free, and I could start playing immediately. I suggest giving Magic Red a go if you value convenience and quality.

Car turns left right in front of me at 36th & Dakota. I honk, soy boy stops, walks to my car and asks “don’t you know how to drive in a rotary?” thinking he had the right of way. I say “don’t you know when to use your turn signal? That’s not a rotary.” He responds “what is it then?” I reply “it’s an island in the middle of a four way intersection.” He continues to disagree with me with condescending passive aggression. Unable to prove my point, we part ways. Intent on knowing what the law considers those circles in the road to be (as opposed to relying only on my common sense) one driving instructor and four police officers relaxing at Macrina later, I’ve confirmed that the circles in side street intersections are not rotaries (for anyone who thinks they are) and that when driving on a single lane road you use a turn signal when changing direction. Especially if you’re foolish enough to turn left right in front of an oncoming vehicle. Unfortunately ranting about bad drivers is like blowing in the opposite direction of a wind storm.

Hey everyone! My partner and I are taking the next step by moving in together and are looking for a place to rent around August. We both currently live in/near Alaska Junction and are looking for recommendations for 2 bedroom rentals (we’re open to any recommendations – from apartments, to duplexes, etc.). Our top budget limit is looking to be about $3,200. Any fellow renters out there have particular places that they’ve had a good experience renting with? Any parts of West Seattle we should particularly focus on, or steer clear of? A couple of additional things for us to consider:
    -My partner commutes, so being near the “C” line is important to us;
-Needs to be pet friendly for our fur baby; and
-Either has parking options, or parking available on the street as we both have vehicles.

I’m doing my own research, but would welcome any thoughts or suggestions to assist – as my partner and I both enjoy perusing the West Seattle Blog!

Thank you so much, everyone! :)

You didn’t think anyone saw you at John the Baptist. Two moms, one dad, two daughters. You walked up while the Easter Service was still in progress. The two girls were dressed like they belonged. The three adults, not so much. How sad is it that you let your two little girls scout for and find every single egg hidden before the hunt was even close to starting. You were, however, somewhat responsible for not letting them take them all and run. You did at least wait for one kid to come out of the church first. That is a whole new level of disgusting entitlement. So gross.

Neighbors…once again I’m reaching out as a volunteer on behalf of the West Seattle Clothesline (https://westseattlefoodbank.org/clothesline/). We’ve been seeing a gradual increase in the number of families stopping by and are currently averaging about 20 families/day! Since we want to make sure we have enough offerings to meet the needs of all our clients, please consider donating now! In particular, we are in desperate need of Men’s clothing, especially shirts (all types…dress, polo, tee), pants/shorts, sweatshirts/hoodies/sweaters, and shoes/sneakers. Additionally, we can use a new influx of bedding and towels.

As you consider donating items, please make sure your donations are in good shape (i.e. you would still wear or use…but perhaps don’t fit, have outgrown the style, or just cleaning out your closets)! It would be ideal if your donations were bagged in garbage/plastic bags that can be closed. This helps us keep them clean and dry.
The Clothesline is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10am – 1pm, and it is located at 4425 41st Ave SW, Seattle WA. A large parking lot is available.

Thank you… thank you…thank you. The generosity of our West Seattle neighbors has always reinforced the Food Bank’s motto of Neighbors Helping Neighbors! With gratitude and appreciation, Meade Thayer

Whine: do I want to boycott QFC? Not at all. I was merely suggesting that avenue of action for Genebean, should Genebean want to act in addition to complaining.

(Frankly I think it’s weird when people leap to the defense of companies with CEOs making tens of millions of dollars PER YEAR, companies that, as others have pointed out, choose not to bother with shoplifters (for whatever reasons), but, hey, everyone’s gotta have a hobby, right?)

Every single near miss I have encountered or witnessed has been at a legal crossing point. I would suggest anyone trying to turn this around on those walking/biking, study the laws. And anyone walking/biking also learn the laws to ensure protection. There’s absolutely give and take in this, but facts/statistics don’t lie. Knowing the rules and following them helps keep yourself and others safe. This site has a lot of great, easy to read info.

Thank you kind stranger, for leaving me a gift of your dog’s poop on the sidewalk in front of my house, perfectly placed so that I’d step in it when I took out the trash.

Your generosity gave me the opportunity to have to clean the sidewalk so the guests we have coming over later today wouldn’t have the same experience that l I did. And instead of having to be in the kitchen cooking with my wife, you allowed me to be outside for a half an hour scraping and scrubbing and smelling the aroma of whatever your dog didn’t quite digest.

So my new year’s wish for you, kind stranger, is that every time you walk your dog you trip and fall; that some other kind stranger leaves you a treasure similar to what you left me on a weekly basis (hopefully bigger and smellier); and that at some point your dog realizes what kind of person you really are, bites you on the leg, runs away, and is adopted by someone that will clean up after them.

12/6/23 – I was walking on the Lincoln Park waterfront around 8:30pm and had just passed by Coleman Pool heading SE in the direction of the Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal, when I noticed a completely nude man standing in the rain about 12 feet from me trying to hide from me behind a tree! I actually recognized him as as the bald-headed, short-bearded, mentally ill man who has been recently living under the two different waterfront gazebos at Lincoln Park for the past several weeks. I quickly walked by to get away from him and looked behind me to see him now walking away from me towards Coleman Pool.

I am a bit zdisturbed by this, as Lincoln Park has always been a nice, clean, decent, family-oriented, safe place, and I have been walking through Lincoln Park for years and have never seen anything like this there before.

I decided to phone police and when they met me at the parking lot of the park they asked me if I wanted them to check on him to see if he was OK, and they asked me if he needs any help with anything. They explained that there’s nothing illegal about being naked in public.

Fair enough. On my way back I saw the nude man again, but behaving differently. Now he was walking casually in the middle of the waterfront paved path with no regard for the fact that he was exposing himself, and talking to himself while holding something in his hand. I actually thought about the perspective of the police officer and decided to ask him earnestly if he was OK and if he needed help.

When I did so he immediately turned and started walking aggressively towards me and curled his hand up around whatever he was holding in it! I don’t believe it was a weapon he was holding in his hand, but I believe he did have some sort of drug paraphernalia.

While walking towards me he began to yell ‘Get the f*ck out of here! I’m going to kill you! Call the cops! Get the f*ck out of here! I’m going to kill you! Call the cops!’, over and over and over as I backed away from him as fast as I could! For a few minutes afterwards, I thought I was actually starting to experience a heart attack, due to the abrupt scare, shock and surprise of it all while I walked as fast as I could to the exit at the end of the park.

This is not a prank. This is not an embellishment. This is not a joke. This is real and this is right now in our beautiful west Seattle Lincoln Park.

I backed away as fast as possible and immediately called the police a second time. He kept walking towards me and repeating the same things for another 20 feet or so, and then turned and walked back towards the larger of the two waterfront gazebos, where he’s keeping his belongings and living. As he was walking away I noticed a large jailhouse-type crucifix tattoo on his back.

I chose to meet the police at my home nearby the park, instead of the park to report the incident, due to fear for my own safety. It was the same officers I initially met with at the park. After speaking with them a second time, they told me they would go to the park to speak with the man.

I guess I’m putting this out there as a safety warning to people who like myself and my family, frequent Lincoln Park and it’s waterfront, and who enjoy recreating and walking with their wives, husbands, children, partners, and pets, who want to avoid situations like the one I just went through this evening.

I intend to return to the park, but only during daylight hours and now, always with a walking partner. It’s really sad and unfortunate that this is happening here, but I guess it’s a sign of the times. I wish there was something further that could be done to prevent this from occurring in our beloved Lincoln Park.

    Please be safe!

About nine years ago we got quotes from a few companies and ended up getting Milgard windows from Intermountain Glass Inc.; the windows have been great and we really liked working with Intermountain. They weren’t high-pressure sales folks, and they had a great suggestion about extending the opening for one of our living room windows, which was a different size from the other one, so that they would match. They just seemed like nice folks who were interested in a good result.

Hey everybody! I’m putting together a little “park party” at Westcrest Dog Park for anyone who wants to volunteer and help out this Saturday, Oct. 21st, at 10:30am. Unfortunately, there’s no funding left for us at the moment, but I will try and bring some coffee and snacks to get started. There are plenty of tools to go around but it can’t hurt to bring any if you got’em. Especially outdoor gloves. The biggest things to get done before the real rainy season comes are getting rid of the last blackberry bushes and filling in holes. Spread the word as its a great way to get volunteer hours if you want em, and I’ll put up some signs tomorrow/Wednesday at the park as another reminder. See you all then and reach out if you have any questions, concerns or ideas!
