I don’t see how to delete my earlier post. :(

We’ve decided to disband our meetup and I’m encouraging people to sign up for the Casual Kayaking Meetup instead. They are an active, fun group with lots of members and many meet ups to meet everyone’s needs for level of kayaking experience and schedules.

Hello, I’m Azulio Buenalga, volunteering as a “table captain” for the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC’s) upcoming annual dinner at the end of September. While table captains usually find attendees among family, friends, and acquaintances, I’d like to make an open call to any interested parties, especially students, people of color, and other minority groups. It’s a great opportunity to engage politically this election year in a unique way!

I’ve created a GoFundMe page in the hopes of raising funds to cover the costs of 10 tickets to the dinner, which will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis as funds become available. The gala will be held at the Seattle Sheraton in downtown Seattle on Sept. 29th. You must provide your own transportation. Further questions? Initial contact(s) may be directed to my email address: buenalgazulio@gmail.com

QFC in the Junction has bulk spices also. Not as big a selection as other places, but worth a look if you’re in the area. It’s in the middle of the baking aisle.

While I only sell retail on line or at occasional shows (I mostly sell wholesale to stores and restaurants), I do sell bulk spices. If you’re near Arbor Heights, please contact me at melissa at the kitchen imp dot com if you’d like to chat about what I offer and perhaps stop by. I have organic, Fair Trade, and conventional spices. I have spices from basil and garlic to black cardamom and saffron, and everything in between.

I need to add my kudos and gratitude as well, Cannonball.

Such a generous thing to do, especially considering the total value of everything, and the fact that it seems most people nowadays could use a financial boost. This was quite a sacrifice for you.

Lost, simple gold wedding band with a row of small diamonds. The ring will be significantly bent out of shape. No real monetary value, but lots of sentimental value. Would have been found between Admiral and Alaska Junction (more than likely between 42nd and Cali Ave SW on Alaska)I was on the way to a jeweler to get it put back in a “ring” shape; when I got there, the ring was no longer in my wallet (I had run some other errands that day and it must have fallen out at some point)The ring was lost about 2 months ago (I kept hoping it was simply in my home — but alas after searching — no)

I have never had a conversation with anyone who had their dog in a store and my thought has always been that its more likely that they don’t want to leave their dog outside rather than all these people are going around thinking they have some sort of service dog. In my mind they know its wrong but they love their dog and are out on a walk and needed something. Who would mind their precious pooch? I don’t like it. And I don’t like those people who walk around in stores with a bird on their shoulder! ??
And the dog in the basket of the cart ? Its probably not any worse than the baby with a diaper. It just creeps me out that someone thinks their dog belongs there. Its a dog not a baby!! As a previous dog owner with a very poorly behaved dog, my one piece of advise to anyone who is interested, to have a dog who is ok staying at home, you need to start practicing when they are a puppy. They need to learn its ok when you leave without them. If you wait until they are older you will be screwed. So as hard as it is to leave that cute little puppy at home when you go to the store, you will be so happy for all the years to come. And yes, putting them in a crate so they don’t wreck your house is not traumatic for anyone but you. As I understand it, dogs like the security when they are young.

I’ve written service animal policies for businesses in the City of Seattle. Important notes: 1) there is no official training or certification for service animals. Yes they can be highly trained, but there are no regulations or licenses required by any government entity.

    2) Federal ADA differentiates service animals as being ONLY dogs and miniature horses. It defers to local jurisdictions who may widen that scope.

    3) Seattle and King County also allow any other animal to be a “service animal”, cats, iguanas, you name it. They aren’t the only entity to be that broad.

    4) You can ask the person what is the animal trained to do. You can’t ask them what their disability is, but that does kind of answer the question.

    5) You can throw an animal out if they poop, pee, cause a disturbance.

    6) Yes people take advantage of this all the time and call their comfort animal or pet a service animal.

I was bitten by a dog that was tied up outside of Jax. It was pretty shocking and I had to fight the urge to smack it back. Why people drag their dogs everywhere, I don’t know.

Jenny Wren Bakery, a small wholesale bakery located in the Alaska Junction is hiring a part-time baker/food processor. Food handling experience preferred. Why is it that people can complain about a 3-day music event that’s too noisy and actually mention a class action lawsuit, yet when i complain about no buses going down 1st Ave. in Pioneer Square and going up the hill, I’m selfish or a whiner, and I should just walk up the hill to 3rd no matter how hard it is for me, or take Ubers whether or not I can afford them?

I realize that 1st Ave. is torn up now, which was supposed to be to get ready for the Center City Connector (CCC) streetcar. But that may never happen, from what I hear. The mayor seems to be opposed, and it does seem like a very expensive transportation method.

But once the streets are back to normal again, and if the CCC is scrapped, I kind of doubt there will be any kind of buses that go from the waterfront or from 1st Ave. to 3rd or otherwise up that hill. Some people in the Seattle Transit Blog comments keep saying “But there are buses on 3rd. Why are buses needed on 1st?”

It seems like if anyone has any kind of mobility problems, the bus system is getting less and less a choice. I understand that stops need to be spaced farther apart, but there have always been buses or some kind of public transportation down 1st Ave.. The local West Seattle buses like the 21 and 56 (and the earlier 18) always went somewhere on 1st and then went to 3rd or somewhere else downtown. After those moved to 3rd there were other buses that went from 1st to 3rd. I’m talking about from the 1880’s until last December, about 130 years. Now suddenly buses aren’t needed on 1st.

This is a huge problem for me, and it’s affecting my budget as I’m having to take Ubers instead of the bus. Why can’t I be allowed to complain about this? I’m sure I’m not the only one affected by this.

I knew the family (Bobby) way, way back in the 70’s but also moved out of the area and lost most contact with all my school friends. Shame how this happens isn’t it? Good luck to you in finding the family, maybe on FB?

If somebody in your family ends up joining them, tell them they should get back to sending us info on their accomplishments! We haven’t heard from them in a few years. Social media’s nice and all but we reach a lot more people and really enjoy sharing the good news of locals’ achievements. – TR
