Detroit is a clustf*ck of despair and hopelessness. I don’t have the answer to changing it and neither do you. Simply putting a “manager” in charge of the city will reduce the budget but that alone won’t change anything for the better that I can see. That appears to be a case of “the beatings will continue until morale improves”, as it is in other cities.

I’m not throwing up my hands on improving Detroit’s lot but I suspect it is the non-example for urban rehab we have in this country. Many cities have improved since the despair of urban blight in the 1960s. A lot of that was based on improving education, employment opportunities, and physical surroundings of big cities.

Lots of cities have had influxes of people over the last few decades, people with good prospects still leave Detroit in droves. Income inequality between Detroit and other cities in Michigan is very, very bad.
