When my neighbor’s cat comes to visit, maybe once every third day, I heat up a little canned food for him in the microwave. He likes gravy, so I add a little water and smash it up with a stainless steel fork. I always use one of the white Royal Grafton bone china saucers I bought at the WS Senior Center Thrift Shop, 4 for $2. (Two of them broke, which means that sometimes he has to wait while I wash one, but he doesn’t seem to mind as long as there is gravy.) Fancy Feast Tender Beef Feast Classic is his favorite, and I never heat it for more than 10 seconds. I use Dawn dish soap and air dry.
We got the microwave from my partner’s mother 20+ years ago. It has a dial, but no buttons. She always asks us if we want a new one with buttons, but I like the dial. As long as it outlasts her and the neighbor’s cat, I do not expect to have another one.
I first heard about Dr. Emoto from a friend with whom I used to carpool. She was big on the power of language to change reality and she used to talk all the way from West Seattle to Kirkland and back. When she got a DUI and her license was suspended, I bought a car so that we could continue to get to work. She never said thank you but when she got her license back she did say that she couldn’t carpool anymore and that it would be better if we weren’t friends, so I guess she was right, her words did change our reality.
I haven’t heard of the woman in Vashon, but I look at the island out my window everyday, and the water surrounding it is very nice.
