Jim, as drives go it is not exactly the most picturesque or stimulating. There is one cool overlook in Pendleton, Oregon:
Just beyond that, Baker City is a somewhat interesting little town to stop in for a meal or to stretch your legs:
After that it is a lot of rolling hills and then farmland…grazing cattle and potato farms:
If you don’t want to do the whole drive in one day, I find that there are some good basic hotels close to the Interstate in either Boise or Twin Falls:
Closer to Jackson Hole, there are some really pretty farms in Idaho’s Swan Valley:
The last part of the drive, as you cross over from Idaho to Wyoming, the roads are really twisty and mountainous.
I highly recommend Hotel Terra in Jackson Hole. It’s a really great hotel. And you can often get a good deal in the off season:
