I put 1,200-1,500 miles a year on my two bikes and have had a few bad situations after yelling “on your left”.
Those people must have heard “to your left” and then moved in that direction, placing them directly into my path. So now I give them a “coming up behind you” well in advance so they can choose what to do and I’ll pass accordingly.
Those with head-phones will get a second one as I get closer and if they still act as if they don’t hear me then screw ’em.
If the path is a narrow one or there is a lot of foot/bike traffic and they still don’t seem to hear me then I’ll give them a small squirt of water on the leg or hand from my bottle, that always wakes them up.
