1 p.m. How Native People use Native Plants, with Carla and Sharon Brown of Haida Ladies Crafts.

Native plants are a popular topic in gardening circles. You’ll often see articles about why they are important, and how to use them in the landscape. When you see mention of the way indigenous people use them, though, it is usually in the past tense. As in, here’s how Native people used to use these plants.

The reality is that local tribes still use these plants for food, medicine, crafts and more. In this class, Carla Brown and her mother, Sharon, of the Haida Tribe, will show us samples of the plants they collect, and discuss how they use them. They will bring samples of teas, salves, and other items they make using native plants.
