Speakers: Sean Arent and Dr. Joe Berkson from the Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility (WPSR), a 40+ year old health-led advocacy organization working to address existential threats to health. Initially founded as a voice for health professionals to oppose nuclear testing and nuclear war, Physicians for Social Responsibility now works on issues ranging from climate change to toxic pollution, with several chapters around the country. Sean Arent manages the Nuclear Weapons Abolition Program at WPSR and coordinates the statewide Washington Against Nuclear Weapons coalition. This presentation will cover Washington’s unique nuclear legacy, federal nuclear weapons plan, and the efforts WPSR leads for sane nuclear weapons policy leading toward a world without the threat of nuclear war.
