West Seattle’s Admiral Congregational Church invites the entire community to join them for their joyful annual post-Easter celebration, Jazz Sunday, on Sunday April 3, 10:30 am.

Now in its twelfth year, this exuberant celebration takes place during the 10:30 service in the church’s sanctuary. Admiral’s director of music, pianist/organist Keith Terhune, is a well-known fixture on the local jazz scene and created this annual event “to inspire us to continue celebrating, even after Easter is over,” says church member Anita Shaffer. “Every year, the worship service following Easter Sunday is jazz-inspired and music-filled, often with Seattle jazz celebrities adding to the experience.”

Joining Terhune and the Admiral Choir this year will be renowned vocal stylist Makini Magee, bassist Mike Eytcheson, and percussionist Mike Bayer, local legends all on the Seattle music scene. All three have performed with legends ranging from Winton Marsalis to Roy Ayers.

Admiral Congregational is a member of the United Church of Christ, a progressive Protestant denomination that consistently champions engaged spiritual practice and informed social
participation. Their website says that they “actively welcome all peoples, regardless of their sex, sexuality, gender identity, social location, economic or immigration status, theology or history.”

Adds Shaffer, “So what if Easter is over for another year? Wear your Easter hat anyway and join us!”

Admission is of course free and the public is warmly invited.
