Atomic Boys opens: About that candy …

atomiccandy.jpg

Since we all discussed it so much … that’s mostly what we got pix of. As reported last night, Max and Quinn’s Atomic Boys Shop-O-Rama opened for business as of this morning, Admiral just west of California. Couple more pix ahead (and we’ll add a video clip later):

That’s more candy; here’s a wall of toy-type items:

Saw some old friends from nearby Lafayette Elementary checking out the store, including principal Virginia Turner.

I went in and got some pop rocks and lemonheads and sugar babies and the red vines that come in the tiny solid pack. Thought about getting the “candy sticks” in the cigarette type box…the retro valentines sure are cute.

Just needs a rack of Harvey and Archie brand comics that sqeaks when rotated!

Was in there this morning and had a great conversation with Kent. I also had a great time playing with the wind-up mechanical robots (metal, not plastic) including one which looks exactly like Robbie from Forbidden Planet. Great place and from the conversation with Kent, sounds like he’s still scouring around for more retro toys, including wooden ones. Drop in, definitely a new fun place in Admiral.

Combine this post with the one that follows… How ’bout getting J.P. Patches to do a grand opening!?! It would be crazy busy. I know Kent has a connection with someone who used to bring J.P. to West Seattle for the parade.

Got some candy dots, bottle caps and pop rocks. I told him he should get Zotz, and he made a note to look for them.

    Nice stroll down memory lane!

By the way, he said about half the people that came in today said they came because of the WSB…way to go!

I remember Marathon Bars and Chocolot Bars; anyone know if they are still produced on a novelty basis? I have tried their Canadian counterparts (Curly Wurly and Aero), but they are not the same. Well maybe they are since I have not had a Marathon or Chocolot in 30 years.

    http://www.oldtimecandy.com/discontinued.htm

The site lists candy that is gone, and not being produced anymore.

From my youth, I remember bottled sodas standing in metal coolers fill with ice water. Probably violates today’s health codes, but they were a sight for sore eyes on a hot summer day.

Thanks to the West Seattle Blog and all its readers for getting us off to such a great start.
