Looking for work? Local photographer’s offer to jobseekers

West Seattle photographer Rasmus Rasmussen had an idea – and after a few weeks of planning, he’s set the time and place to make it reality: He’s offering free professional headshots to jobseekers, and he’s set up the photo session for 11 am Tuesday, August 25, at C and P Coffee. First-come, first-served, the first 100 people, age 18+. Read all about it on his website, here.

Unless you’re applying for a modeling gig or TV show, this is a very bad idea to attach a headshot to your resume/application. Not only is it unprofessional, it’s also potentially going to end any chance you have at a job right there before anyone reads your resume. Applicants already need to be on the ball about what they post Online for anything including photos. HR dept. and hiring managers do actually look over things they find regarding an applicant and it does impact their decision early on.

Not sure I understand the first comment completely, but having a great picture on sites like LinkedIn or Facebook is a good asset for anybody looking to connect. Agree you probably don’t want to add to your resume (though I’m not sure why given that most people automatically search for information on the web about potential hires and definitely check out pictures)

Headshots are 100% necessary for anyone using social media, but I agree that unless you’re an actor, you probably shouldn’t include a glossy print with your job application. This offer is for those who feel that a head shot might help them in their search for employment. I promise not to force anyone.

The key to understanding the value is understanding that networking is the most effective tool for finding a job and social media sites are a part of that effort. Your resume is necessary, but it works much better when a friend carries it over to HR.

So as someone else mentioned, we need headshots on Linkedin, Plaxo, Facebook, etc.

Seriously!?! Yes a good looking photo for LinkedIn, Facebook, your professional CV, Match, your website, business cards, blogs, a book jacket, business proposals (AS WELL AS actors and models) can be so helpful…What a great opportunity to have a professional photographer create a flattering photo (not sure about you but it’s been a while since I had one taken) and for it to be at C&P Coffee a great coffeeshop right in West Seattle- Not only fun but so generous! Thanks so much!
