Another sign of paper-to-pixels change? Mailbox’s days numbered

From Beach Drive Blog (spotted via the WSB Blogs page): The US Postal Service mailbox at Jacobsen/Beach Drive (which is technically Alaska/Beach, per Google Street View as seen above, or this regular G-map) goes away later this month. A few more details here. SUNDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE: Alkiguy says the mailbox at 55th/Alki is also posted for removal this month. We’ll check with USPS to see if there are others.

I’ve talked w/a few neighbors and we’re really not happy about this. I’m surprised it’s being removed when I see cars pull up often to leave mail and many of us use the mail box to send mail rather than leave mail in our boxes in front of our homes.

The removal of a public mailbox disturbs me, but it does seem to fit with the impending closure of certain public school programs, and next month’s permanent removal of analog TV signals from the public airwaves.

that sucks I use the 55th alki one all the time to mail bills and stuff I don’t want to leave out in the open for the postman to pick up…

I think we should call the number on the box and complain(the Supervisor of Delivery and Collection at (206) 768-4368.)

The mailbox on Beach can’t be taking a lot of budget resources to maintain/service. The postman parkes his/her van *every day* directly opposite the mailbox on Beach…both to take a break and also for delivery for the neighborhood.

I routinely (1-2x/month) get mis-delivered mail , and now can just take a short walk and drop it in the mailbox. Will be a shame that the rightful owner will have to wait until the next time I go to the Junction post office (which is typically only once a month)

Sorry, comment time is over.
