City goes public with revamped “My Neighborhood Map”

Found out about this from City of Seattle technology boss Bill Schrier (a West Seattleite, by the way), who mentioned it on Twitter: The city just launched an updated, clickable My Neighborhood Map that you can use to search for all sorts of info – even active fire incidents (use the “impacts” tab) and crime stats. They’re asking for feedback; send it here.

Yeah, that’s my one comment, I decided not to make the post any longer with it … they’re using the Southwest / Delridge Neighborhoods split by which they have divided district councils (as discussed in the Forums). Bears no relation to residents’ reality. Would love to see West Seattle “unified” someday, even if ONLY on the map (certainly it’s great to have different neighborhood services offices, where Stan Lock and Ron Angeles do great work on behalf of the SW and DN districts respectively, because our peninsula is so big … but hey, what if it was renamed West Seattle West and West Seattle East … hmm)

    Lots of great info.

It would be nice to be able to search for things city-wide. The search is currently set up to search in neighborhoods or specific locations only. I’ll send that comment along to the city…

Well, I thought I could put in my address and that didn’t work. Then I found the “Southwest” link and it came up with other neighborhoods. So my brain actually fell out of my head sometime tonight or something.

I use West Seattle instead of Seattle in the last line of my mailing address. Provided the zip code is correct for official delivery purposes, it’s a harmless gesture of pride in the neighborhood.

    Love that!

Sorry, comment time is over.
