  The very same type of cameras have also begun appearing in Burien. For example, there is one on 1st Ave. S. at SW 152nd. Unfortunately, I don’t know what type of camera they are either and will be interested to learn what you find out.

  I was at the SW Library Grand Opening. It was busier than hell, but looks fantastic! New inventory, expanded childrens section, updated computers, meeting room and very nice design! I did get to see the Mayor as well, but didn’t get to share my idea about ditching the tunnel idea for a mega sized people mover. Hey, it works well at the airport (JK)!
  Seriously, the librarys new digs look great…another great addition to the neighborhood.

  The “run the light and you’re busted” cams are much larger than those. They’re definitely traffic monitoring cams, as in just watching to see where the backups are.

  There’s a couple of the red light cams down in Auburn and they’re big- they look like a suitcase on a stop-sign-height pole.

  The library building architecture is awesome although I was disappointed to find that there was no Starbucks inside.

  Where are some places that are legal that I can adopt a healthy cat from? Can Someone give me any info as too how much it would cost and a close agency near W.S? I might adopt two if there cheap enough.

  Jiggers — besides the Animal Shelter (the link in our post goes to their current roster of available cats), one other suggestion we can offer is Petco — which just about every day of the year features two cats from the Purrfect Pets shelter (back of the store, near the grooming area). That’s where one of ours came from. As for “cheap,” that’s subjective … most shelter adoptions require you to cover the cost of spaying/neutering the cat. A worthwhile investment, though, in our view.

  Wondering if I can post a lost pet notice here.?

  A friend of mine who lives in the Genesee Hill area lost his dog sometime early morning of March 9th.

  His 10 month old Cavalier King Charles Spanial got out of the yard somehow and ran off. He is just heartsick.

  He lives around Dakota St. between 47th & 50th street.

  10 months old
  10 to 15 lbs.
  her hair is long and redish brown
  She answers to the name Lucy
  She wasn’t suppose to be out so she’s without Identification.
  She is wearing a red collar that has
  silver paw prints on it.

  We are so hoping that someone took her inside and is taking care of her untill they find the owner.

  Someone visiting accidently let her out of the house and from there she somehow got out of the yard. Normally she is with him every moment.

  Any news you may have would be so appreciated. If anyone know of other sights to post lost and found pets in WS please let me know. He calls the animal shelter/pound and listens to the the recordings they have on lost pets.

  I heard that its not good to get a cat from a pet store. Someone told me awhile back to get them from a better source. I’ll have to invistigate more. Animal shelters I think spay them but its not cheap to adopt one from them.I’ll have to call and maybe go out of my way. But I will talk to Petco. I don’t want to adopt one, and then later find out, its a crazy cat or has multiple health isuues. My friends wife bought a dog from a store and it had major problems they found out later on. They got rid of it. It couldn’t be around their young kids at the time acting like that.

  Just let people around you know that you are looking for a cat. If you want an older cat, someone’s older relative always seems to be moving where they can’t take a cat, or a death has left cats needing a home.

  For kittens, spring is oops season. A lot of “I didn’t know the kitten could get pregnant, I was getting it fixed next month.”

  The cat I have now is my favorite. She was a kitten left behind when the household moved away with the mother cat. She was living in a hedge in my niece’s yard in Shorewood. I went over to take a look at the kitten, had a cat carrier with me. Kitten ran over to me, jumped in carrier. Took her home. She has stuck to me like glue ever since for eight years. More like a dog.

  These are all cats that the next step would be a shelter. They seem to be less traumatized if you adopt them before being shelter cats.

  And “Next to Nature” in the junction has cats and kittens for adoption in association with local animal rescue group, The Friends of the Animals Foundation. Plenty of needy kitties to go around.

  Like Petco, Next to Nature (just north of Easy Street) also usually has a couple of cats available for adoption at the back of the store. I just got two adorable, healthy cats (6 mos & 2 yrs) last Saturday through the “pets” section on craigslist, so that’s a good place to look. Petfinder.com is another great resource…they show animals not only from the Seattle Animal Shelter, but also other shelters in the area.

  FYI — pets can be expensive. It’s a lot more than the initial adoption fee. If you’re not prepared to spay/neuter, keep up on vet visits, or keep them as long as they live, then it’s not best not to adopt.

  That last line should read… “it’s best NOT to adopt.” It’s not fair to the animal if you can’t take them for life.

  There is a WONDERFUL cat rescue/no kill shelter is West Seattle called Animal Safe Haven Association (ASHA).

  You can view the cats available for adoption on the above link. The shelter is at a woman’s home in a quiet out-of-the-way part of West Seattle and you need to call to make an appointment and get directions if you are interested in seeing the cats. Some of the cats are cared for in ‘foster homes’ until they are ready to be adopted and moved to the shelter for ‘viewing’. I adopted my most recent cat from ASHA. Although she asks for a donation, because ASHA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, donations are tax deductible.

  The cats are healthy, well cared for, and it is a place that I highly recommend. If I were a cat waiting to be adopted, I’d want to be there! You will know what I mean if you go there and see the screened-in porch area that is part of the cats’ living quarters where the cats are free to roam around in, climb ‘trees’, and amuse themselves by looking at the goldfish in the indoor pond.

  I’ve always had pets until the last 8 years or so. I miss having them around. Cats are only allowed where I live. I had two dogs for ten years and four cats for fifteen years before I moved to Seattle a decade ago.

  My dad loves animals and still he has two cats and a dog back home. The one cat is sixteen years old. I know the responsibilitie’s of caring. I’m not married and don’t have kids, so I can afford them hehehehehe.. I can see myself coming home and saying here kitty, kitty, kitty….lol

  The cool thing about cats are that they don’t talk back,very self sufficient,not needy like dogs and women, and clean. Plus, most are content.

  Its also healthy for you to have a pet around to take care of as well. I guess I would be looking for hopefully a potty trained cat that’s maybe two plus years old. Red Tabby’s are a favorite of mine.

  I take it the Cuban restaurant that Casa Feliz replaced was Mameys Cuban Bistro? It got great reviews and was quite busy, so I was surprised that it disappeared. (My own experience: one good visit and one where the pounded-chicken steak was literally as tough as leather.) I heard their exit had something to do with the owner of the building wanting it for some other use, and that Mameys would be back at a new location, but perhaps that was just a cover story. Anyone know what really happened?

  Seattle really needs a Cuban restaurant (and/or bakery!), and it would be great if it would surface in West Seattle. Oh, sure, some places pop up in Web searches that claim to be Cuban, like Mojito Cafe, but they’re really just restaurants that have one or two Cuba-inspired dishes. By the way, the Mojito Cafe in Lake City used to be pretty wonderful, slow service aside, but the second one, now owned by someone else, on Western Ave. is very bad (they left out the plantains accompanying my dry and tasteless chicken breast and instead featured canned peas and carrots!).

  Our two cats are both from Friends of the Animals Foundation/FAF (the group at Next to Nature) – one adult girl who was found pregnant in Highpoint area; one kitten from a feral mom off of Delridge. We got them several years apart and have always supported the group. FAF has lots more available than those in the store too (many in homes for foster care) so check them out on the above mentioned petfinder.org site!

  “The fourth marked crosswalk analyzed is at the end of the West Seattle Bridge off-ramp at SW Spokane Street where it meets Admiral Way SW. This marked crosswalk is a remnant from before work was done on the West Seattle Bridge. It currently leads to nowhere, and will therefore be removed.”

  So it leads to no where probably since the 70’s and will therefore be removed. Good call. Also, it should be removed simply for the fact that cars are travelling 45 MPH + coming around that corner. :) Ya think ?

  I talked to a worker at Casa Feliz yesterday and he said they were closed 2 months due to cold weather here, and taking a vacation to Mexico. But they are open again!
