WHAT: The ‘Hood Hunts are a series of FREE map-based scavenger hunts, held in various neighborhoods in the Seattle area. This is a community-inspired, grassroots effort, where the participants take turns “hosting” each hunt, so we try to keep these as simple as possible, for both participants and our volunteer hosts. The 27th ‘Hood Hunt is coming to West Seattle!

Here’s how it works: Show up at the suggested meeting time and location, and bring a copy of the map & questions (provided on the website). Each neighborhood map covers about a half to a full square mile and contains twenty checkpoints. Find as many checkpoints as you wish, and return to the finish. Afterward, we’ll find a place to hang out and share our routes, stories, and votes for our favorite checkpoint locations.

You can go solo, or with a team of friends and family. You can go by foot, bike, scooter, whatever! (Most people go by foot).

WHEN: Saturday, June 29th, 12:00 pm
12:00 pm Gather at start and meet some people!
12:15 pm Start! (running early? running late? no worries, do what you can and meet us later)
2:00 pm Meet at social and share your stories! (this is a suggested time, as there’s no official time limit)

If you’re running late, or have to leave early, no worries. You can participate whenever you can, once the maps are available, generally two or three days before the event. You can even participate long after the event, since we’ll keep past event maps on this website.

WHERE:
Start: Junction Plaza Park (SW Alaska St & 42nd Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116)
Social: Elliott Bay Brewing Co. (4720 California Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116) This is within a block of the start!

WHO: Anyone and everyone, invite your friends!

Three Different Ways To Play. Pick One!

1) Print on Paper. When the Map & Questions become available (by June 27th), download a copy of the map and questions from the website, print them, and bring with you to the event. Since this is a free event, it’s PYOM (print-your-own-map!)

2) View on Smartphone. When the Map & Questions become available (by June 27th), download or open the map & question files to view on any smartphone while you explore.

3) View on GPS-enabled iPhone. If you have an Apple device with a GPS (iPhone and certain iPads), and you have the Maplets app ($2.99), you can download a geo-referenced ‘Hood Hunt map to your device and you’ll see your exact position indicated within the official ‘Hood Hunt map!

Welcome to the future! When the Map & Questions become available (by June 27th), you can either search for the map & questions file within the app, or click on this link (once available) on your mobile device and download from there.

‘Hood Hunts are:
Simple (no fees, no registration, no official results, no complaints)
Social (we’ll hang out and go somewhere afterward)
Shareable (share the maps and invite your friends)
Small (in size, easy to organize)
Safe (busy roads are used as boundaries)
