SATURDAY MIDDAY: Join EarthCorps and the Green Seattle Partnership on Saturday June 19 in the Delridge Natural Area, 10 am! We will be working to restore the urban forest along a piece of Longfellow Creek. Participants should expect to learn a brief history of the Park and an overview of urban forests and ecosystems in the Puget Sound area. EarthCorps staff will discuss forest structure, native vs. non-native plant species, and environmental restoration. Projects include preparing restoration sites for planting, the removal of invasive plants and restoration site maintenance such as weeding and sheet mulching. We supply gloves, tools, water, light refreshments and a talk that covers safety, the park you are working in, forest structure, environmental restoration and the overview of the project. We suggest that volunteers dress in layers of older clothes that include long pants, long sleeve shirt and a jacket. Durable footwear such as work boots, hiking boots or running shoes are recommended for these events. These events take place rain or shine so please come prepared for the weather. Bring a lunch if you would like as well as a water bottle and a coffee cup/travel mug for refreshments. For more information or to sign up, please go to the EarthCorps website at www.earthcorps.org
