About that circling airplane over northeast West Seattle

11:08 PM: Thanks for all the tips/questions. That small plane is “Smokey,” the State Patrol’s air presence, and it’s looking for someone wanted for eluding, focused right now near Harbor/Spokane. (That’s according to an FYI on SPD radio.)

11:15 PM: The WSP plane has moved on. The car they were looking for was described only as a gray 4-door Mercedes; we don’t know the status of the search.

Yup, that’s what it looked like on Flightradar24 (and other trackers, I’m sure). Came up from Olympia and then headed back out to the west. Sometimes SPD asks for “Smokey” (actually five planes in the fleet, according to the WSP website) but this was one of their own cases.

Thank you for the update on this (somewhat) strange event. I heard a small plane flying fairly low over the Belvidere area (36th/37th/Belvidere Sts.) last night at this time and was wondering what was going on.  Trying to go to bed and kept hearing this low flying plane (I was a few blocks away from its flight path but could still hear it pretty loud).  A bit of a “weird” event on a Friday evening.   Thanks for the update and must keep in touch regularly with the W.S. Blog to know what is going on!
