Looks like our old big Blue Point, named Cougar (14 pounds) he would chase anything that came on our property: dogs, other cats, people didn’t matter, they were all fair game.
There are videos of cats chasing bears up trees, and then standing guard. Cats attacking pit bulls that went after “their” kid on a bicycle. Don’t mess with cats – especially Siamese!
As fun as this is, coyotes are known for luring pets back to their pack where they will then attack and kill the pet. This happens with dogs who initially look like they are playing with a coyote only to find that it’s a ploy to get them to follow them back to their pack, or they will bring the pack with next time.Sadly, outdoor cats getting killed by coyotes is not an uncommon occurrence in my neighborhood in West Seattle. Those attacks are typically going to involve more than a single coyote. Even though this cat appears to be scaring the lone coyote away, if this were my cat I would keep them inside at night for a while.<insert-debbie-downer-gif-here>
This is a myth and does not happen. Coyotes do not lure pets to other places to kill them. But yeah, they’ll kill and eat a cat if they catch one. Yet another good reason to keep cats indoors and not have outdoor cats that roam.
I love it one of my boys is fearless as well !!! One day my hubby walked in early from work and my boy squared up on him it was reducdlsy cute obviously stood down once realized was just dad he also took out an entire mouse problem last summer I love my Brad my fierce protector
There are most definitely some tough cats out there – the skill set is quickness, instincts and sharp fists.
It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, rather it’s the size of the fight in the dog…Err, cat!
Coyotes remember where food is. That cat will be dead soon if they do not keep it in.
Our cats are indoor only. We lost an outdoor semi-feral cat to a coyote two years ago. We were so close to getting him into the house. It was devastating. There are lots of catios and window boxes to choose from these days. They are a safe fresh air option for pets.
In the 1970’s I baby sat for a family that had a Siamese cat. It sat on top of the tv and hissed every time I tried to change the channel. This was before everyone had a remote. I do believe it could have chased that coyote!
I’m hoping that the coyote population boom will also result in a healthier ecosystem for birds and small animals like snakes, lizards, and frogs. Either through owners choosing to bring their outdoor cats inside (ideal) or predation (not ideal, but I’m tired of seeing wildlife killed by irresponsible pet owners). I hate seeing the northern flicker fledglings in the wetland I restored get killed by cats. Keeping outdoor cats is so incredibly selfish and destructive to our environment.
Please keep your cats inside for their safety and the benefit of the local ecosystem.
