UPDATE: Car-on-side crash by north Lincoln Park

4:59 PM: SPD and SFD are headed to a reported flipped-car crash at Fauntleroy Way SW and SW Austin. Police say the driver has gotten out of the car and no one is trapped. Updates to come.

(Added: WSB photos)

5:24 PM: Our photographer says it’s actually a car on side, not car on roof. No serious injuries reported. At least two parked cars were reported to have been hit. (Added) Maddy sent this video from a different angle, before emergency responders arrived:

Northbound traffic is getting through on Fauntleroy.

5:35 PM: An SDOT crew and tow truck have arrived.

5:47 PM: Officers just told dispatch that all lanes are now open.

Nothing says speed was involved. You don’t have to be speeding to roll a car.

Reality check. Cars can-and do roll over (or on their side) AT-OR UNDER THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT if they hit another car/object at just the right angle. I’m sorry, but it’s true. And yes, the “speed is the only thing” keyboard “experts” won’t ever believe that

Cool. They were either going too fast or not paying attention to their surroundings. Possibly both. A car doesn’t just flip with responsible defensive driving.

The westseattle car flipping  monster strikes again .

How in the hell did that occur?  Thanks goodness that nobody was hit walking across the street or on the sidewalk.

You can’t park that BMW there.

Traffic and parking laws are just suggestions around the park. I just walked by this intersection a couple hours before this incident and saw a car parked north of the “no parking north of here” sign on the south corner of Austin and Fauntleroy (yet again). We’ve been repeatedly trying to get SPD to enforce the no parking there, because it creates a serious safety issue for cars entering Fauntleroy from Austin. Not sure if that contributed to what happened here, but between that, people using Fauntleroy like a racetrack, and idiots trying to pull U-turns to get into the ferry line on a daily basis, this incident doesn’t surprise me one bit.

Down at 46th & Rose we get people parking literally wrapping around corners. It’s exhausting.

Those kinda crashes have happened a lot last few months.

It’s a phenomenon that’s been going on for years here.

Yesterday traffic was at a stand still for 30 minutes at Lincoln Park because some cars had parked in the ferry line, and the ferry was so backed up that the lane snaked around the cars into the general purpose lane blocking all traffic. Some cars played chicken with incoming traffic to get around. WA surprised there wasn’t a wreck yesterday too. The whole area needs a bigger dock (get the queueing cars off the street) and more traffic control in general.

What we need is clear signs and parking/traffic enforcement. You could make a big ol dock and cars still wouldn’t fit. We need to actually enforce the existing rules.

How many times have I seen someone headed to the Vashon/Southworth ferry whip a U-turn in the middle of Fauntleroy to get into the ferry line?  Not sure this is what happened, but people go too fast for conditions and make dangerous maneuvers all the time through this section of Fauntleroy.  We have pretty much given up on riding our bikes through here (which we’ve done for 30 years) until the city enforces traffic laws and modifies the road infrastructure to prevent the illegal, mid-block U-turns and slow people down.

I like the cars that whip a u turn in front of me so that they can get in the Ferry line.  Not cool when they do that.
