UPDATE: Crash at Delridge/Thistle

(Added: Reader photo)

7:48 PM: Just happened onto this – police are blocking southbound Delridge at Thistle. Texter says it’s a crash, involving a Metro bus. The SFD dispatch was very short-lived, so apparently no serious injuries. Avoid the area for a while.

8:25 PM: Reopened. Checking with SFD re: injuries, if any.

Drove by about 20 minutes ago – looked like 2 cars rear ended each other and the bus at the bus stop.

I don’t know how many times I’ve seen near misses because of where the bus stops are located. I’ll never understand why they’re just on the other side of stoplights. People see a green light and expect to go, then the bus abruptly stops. You often have no visibility of the bus stop and I can’t count how many times the bus drivers didn’t signal the stop. It’s really dangerous.

If you can see the light then you can see the bus stop which has a big red sign. Also assuming you can see the bus/vehicle in front of you or know the length of it and should give yourself enough space. If you’re tailgating like a jerk  and end up blocking the intersection then you deserve whatever happens. Stop making excuses for terrible behavior which is also illegal fyi.

Um, brake lights signal a vehicle may be stopping. If that is not good enough you are driving too fast and following too close.

Love this. When a bus is involved suddenly rear enders are absolved? It’s gotta be those darn buses and bus stops; couldn’t be the driver’s not doing their due diligence to drive without crashing. Also, love the lack of empathy in trying to understand why transit riders would want their stops near intersections. I’ll give you a hint: my destination might be on the other side of the street.

This is a wild understanding of how driving works. “I saw a green light so I slammed on the gas.” is not defensible in any context. If this is how you think driving should be treated, please destroy your license and stop operating a vehicle because you are a danger to your community.

Brian. So, what does the green light mean?

        • k February 14, 2025 (12:45 pm)

It means proceed if it’s safe to do so.  Having a bus stopped in front of you means it’s not safe to do so.  I really wish people were required to take the written test every few years to renew their license.  The number of people who don’t seem to know the basics of driving is pretty shocking.

It is illegal to enter an intersection if you cannot clear it completely. When the bus stops here, be patient for 20 seconds and go when the bus resumes driving. It’s not that hard.

Sure is a lot of accidents at that intersection

    • Huh lol February 15, 2025 (5:12 am)

I live on the corner, there are not a lot of accidents here. Been here 7 years, husband has been here almost 40… he’s seen one really bad accident involving a cop that blew the light annd hit a civilian about a decade ago. Other than that, this is the worst one I’ve seen at our intersection.

It’s a very big red bus.  Don’t follow so close that you can’t stop when it does, this is not the fault of a slow moving   bus in front of you,

The art of tailgating. Does it really get anyone where you are going faster, or is it just an expression of being a horses arse. And the amount of seemingly time saved is surely defeated when and if there is an accident. Also regardless of insurance coverage or who is at fault time and $$ is lost. Not to mention the stress of tailgating and the stress of resolving an accident.

Preach!! My hypermiling philosophy around tailgating: the more space I give you, the more space I give myself, the less energy I waste, the more energy I have when I need it.

I agree with people about following too close,  running reds & all sorts of unsafe practices but placing a bus stop abutting an intersection is an exceedingly bad design.

Sorry, comment time is over.
