11:03 PM MONDAY: Police checking out 911 calls about possible gunfire just before 11 pm in the Westwood area have just confirmed it. Officers told dispatch they’ve found casings at 27th/Thistle [map], near Chief Sealth IHS and Nino Cantu SW Athletic Complex. No word yet of injuries; at least one parked car is reported to have damage.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE: The SPD summary of the incident changes the intersection to 27th/Trenton and adds other details:

At 2253 hours, several callers reported hearing the sound of gunfire in the area of 27 Av SW and SW Trenton St. Officers arrived at that intersection to find 13 spent 10mm shell casings on the east side of the intersection, and three spent 9mm shell casings approximately 10-15 yards west of them. A nearby parked and unoccupied vehicle had a round go through both the rear window and windshield. No bullet fragments were recovered. Surveillance footage didn’t reveal anything of evidentiary value. The spent shell casings were photographed and placed into evidence.

Dark 4 door wagon type Mazda or VW seen going westbound immediately after gunfire burst. 4-5 SPD vehicles onsite within 5 min. White car was shot up on corner of 27/SW Thistle. Douchebags.

White car on thistle that was shot was parked on the N side of street facing west. One of the bullets exited the windshield which would indicate the vehicle was traveling westbound.

We had a guy ringing our doorbell frantically and trying to get into our house on 18th SW near PREP garden. Around 12:40am. He said he was being chased by someone with a gun. We called 911 but he ran off after breaking through our fence. Saw multiple police cruisers come check through the neighborhood after. Not sure if this is all related.

Heard it quite a bit away. Sounded like a few shots from a handgun, with return fire from a semi-automatic weapon. Maybe 6-7 shots in a burst from the returning shooter. Horrible people, are their lives so bad that this is what they do for fun? They should try living in another country with real poverty.

Most of these are juveniles with poor parenting or no parenting. I’m tired of this law where you can’t talk to them unless you have a lawyer. If you are going to do adult things, be held accountable as an adult.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2nd amendment in all its perverted glory. Not what the founders had in mind, but here we are. The horse is out of the barn, the genie is out of the bottle. Time for clearer heads to prevail, especially considering the incoming administration. Not trying to rage bait. It’s time for solutions.

Hey you guys who are shooting off your guns. I know you read this because you are checking on how much press your actions are generating. Is this really what you are going to do with your life? Let me suggest something different! Find a good partner, someone you love and use your energy to build a life, have children and love them and watch them grow. Give them what you did not or do not have. Then enjoy a New Years Eve with them and their children. Really,,,think about it.
