4:16 PM: Thanks for the tips. There’s a crash at California and Admiral, on the northbound side, a collision between a semitruck and car.
4:44 PM: Live camera shows the scene hasn’t cleared yet. We’ll be checking with SFD re: injuries.
9:00 PM: SFD says no injuries were reported.
Let me guess, the concrete pump truck was over to the left a little, because they had to take a wide right turn, and the white Subaru wasn’t paying attention and tried take a righthand turn themselves. As a result the cement truck didn’t see the white Subaru and smashed them. If that is the scenario, who’s fault is it? I’d say the white Subaru.
This was quite a traffic jam, as cars lined up had to get into the left turn lane to get around the truck. I’ve almost been in this situation before. The person turning right can’t always see that the truck intends to also turn right, depending on where the turn signals are located on the truck. I appreciate when trucks take up both lanes to make sure the intent to turn from a center lane not unclear.
to make this turn though you have to get as far left as you can if you are going to go right, im going to venture the most wildest of guesses and assume no one headed west over admiral way there would move their car to help a trucker in a million years. if you stay right to go right youre going to run over the lights and any other signage on the se curb of this intersection. if you are getting this close to a truck thats on you, thats not a two lane to go straight or right even though many use it this way. even if you were in the right imagine the truck drug its axles over your car and crushed you. many people in grave yards surely had the right of way. always blows my mind seeing admiral parents pushing their stroller into a busy road first to test if car drivers are paying attention 😑
except in the photo you can clearly see there’s a blinker right next to the driver’s head. it’s high time to stop coddling unknowledgeable, inattentive drivers. their selfish attempt to save a few seconds now results in a lot of other peoples’ time and money being wasted.
LJJ – that’s the same scenario I thought. The driver of the car appears to have been in the truck driver’s blind spot. Fortunately no one was hurt this time, knowing truck driver blind spots is something all motorists, pedestrians and bike rider’s need to be aware of!
I’m sure if you talk to bus or truck drivers, they can tell you about impatient people trying to squeezing through on the right bringing everybody to a halt. Please, give them some room to keep things moving.
In this particular location, that squeezing through on right is always a hazard for pedestrians in the crosswalk. I can’t count how many times I’ve walked west to east in that crosswalk, only to have a car that couldn’t see past some stopped at the light roll right into the crosswalk without stopping to make that right turn.
