  • Original spare keys or they made their own? October 6, 2024 (1:54 pm)

That is so creepy. Someone in your surrounding had access to them.

Yes, someone had access by either being a guest in our house or getting into my purse.

Are you saying that you are missing your spare key? I ask because I know someone whose teenager was able to get a key made for his parents car somehow online simply by having the VIN of the vehicle, and was taking it out for joyrides. Just a thought.

New car keys send signals often to check for how close it is to or inside a car.  There’s cheap devices that read the signals.  People walk or drive around with these devices listening and recording signals.  As you unlock a car and start it, they can capture the signal for that.  Then the person uses software and a device bought online to program keys to the car. Automotive “security” is really poor.  It’s a deterrent, but I recommend using a faraday bag (blocks signals) or shielded pouch (lessens the distance signals reach).  You can have key fobs on your dresser and car parked on street and voila, car is stolen with 100% usable keys.  Cars are then used for other crimes or shipped out of the country.  Yes, “Gone in 60 Seconds” really happens in real life, it’s just less exciting.

More like “Gone in 15 Seconds” in this case.  Wow.

And there wasn’t even any wind!

Why I like my 1999 vehicle.   A normal key.   I do have a hidden kill switch just in case.

Ain’t modern tech just so awesome?

My FOB stopped working awhile ago so you needed the hard key to unlock and start the car. If you watch the video, he walks right up, fumbles with the keys before hand and our spare keys are missing. I appreciate everyone’s comments. Please keep looking out!
