12:15am Just called 911 aprox 12 shots fired in Arbor Heights near 98th and 35th, sounded like traveling south.

Yeah, they dispatched to that too, but haven’t found any evidence so far.

We heard that here in Arbor Heights, too. The initial volley in South Delridge had some definite fully-automatic fire. About two minutes later there were slower-pace shots which sounded like they were coming from around 26th and Roxbury.

That’s exactly what I heard as well. First shots were rapid and loud and second shots appeared to be less noisy and not as frequent. Heard from my backyard on 31st PL and Roxbury. Loud enough that my dogs were a bit startled and on high alert.

There’s a few cars that regularly cruise Alki late at night that have their exhaust systems altered to sound like gunshots/backfiring. I wonder if occasionally that’s what are mistaken for gunshots.

I have heard those but these were not… clearly firing.  No car heard speeding off though.  Made me think it was someone in their yard.  Close to Holy Family right around 12:15.

I live near 17th & Barton. Heard 3 rounds of shots in quick succession beginning right here and moving south. Immediately called 911 and then heard shots much farther away a few minutes later while still on the call.

‘Insane’ Straight Pipe Car Mod Mimics Gunfire, Could Cause Panic | NBC New York I-Team – YouTubeAs shown in this video, cars can and are set up to sound like gunfire.    We heard the other day and looked on line at this & exactly what we heard.

Walking my dog in the middle of day last week & a car drove by -& that happened-freaked the dog out-me too actually. There’s a word for folks who think this is funny-can’t use it here.

What are the mayor and city council doing about the increased crime in West Seattle and greater Seattle?  I find it unacceptable that crime is escalating instead of decreasing.  Why don’t Seattle’s elected officials have a townhall meeting with the entire city and let us know what their plans and policies will be to stem crime before the end of 2024.

They are having a meeting on September 11th @6:30. SW Precinct on Delridge Way.

Is there a link to register for this meeting? I’d love to go. This is scary.

        • WSB September 5, 2024 (1:52 pm)

No registration or RSVP. Just show up. There have been Crime Prevention Council meetings like this at the precinct for many years – but in reality the “council” is just whoever shows up. The organizer currently is the precinct’s Crime Prevention Coordinator Jennifer Satterwhite.

Are Seattle’s  mayor and city council  attending this meeting?  Do you know how many people the SW Precinct holds for such a meeting?  Hopefully, there will be a lot of attendees.

As previously announced, City Councilmember Rob Saka is scheduled to speak. I don’t know the meeting room’s official capacity but in 17 years of covering meetings in West Seattle, including many there, I have NEVER seen a spillout crowd. Usually in recent years it’s just the opposite.

What do you want them to do-honestly curious if you have any suggestions? Other than having more police on the street (which is in progress -but will be awhile before enough are trained & ready to be out there) what do you think the city should do? My thoughts? Stiffer penalties, less plea bargaining, higher bail,. Folks need to hold elected officials that deal with these things specifically-accountable. We elect Senators, & Representatives at the State level that create laws & penalties. We elect Prosecuting Attorneys, City Attorneys & most Judges who interpret & sentence & set bail as they see fit. Now-your thoughts?

A change in policies  that have citizens safety and well-being as the main focus would be effective in stemming crime.  Getting SPD up to full staffing is a must along with policies that punish criminals and protect citizens…aka basic foundational management for the safety of citizens.  ALL elected officials first job is to PROTECT citizens.  Is that being done in Seattle today?  In my humble opinion, current elected prosecutors, city attorneys, judges are not sentencing in a manner that protects citizens.  Seattle, in my opinion, has an unsafe revolving-door criminal justice system.

Just heard gunshots now at 11pm around there

    • WSB September 5, 2024 (11:06 pm)

Police are en route to check out a report of possible gunshots. We’ll write about it if they report finding evidence. But the reports came from a lot farther north – 4800 block Delridge. Hopefully you have called in to 911 too!

Sorry, comment time is over.
