WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Gunfire near Lowman Beach (updated)

9:33 PM: Police are temporarily blocking off 48th/Beach Drive/Lincoln Park Way while investigating confirmed gunfire. 911 callers thought it came from a vehicle (we haven’t yet heard a description). Responding officers told dispatch that so far they’ve found “several casings” on Lincoln Park Way. No report of injuries or damage.

ADDED: No additional information, but if you have info or video that would help police investigate, the case to refer to is 23-355206.

MONDAY UPDATE: A few more details from the report summary SPD released today – “Witnesses advised of a white SUV that fled the scene after a passenger fired multiple shots out the window. Officers located 5 spent shell casings in the intersection and a ‘Stop’ sign and ‘No Parking’ sign that had been struck by gunfire.”

Yes, they were checking whether it might be related but a witness in the Lowman gunfire said no.

Heartbreaking. Lowman has been my refuge from the world for 20+ years, and I was just there yesterday reveling in the beauty of four sea lions who were swimming close to shore. I am so sad to think of violence anywhere, but this is my refuge from the world when I need to catch my breath so it has an extra sting.

Heard it. Thought it was fireworks (hoping, anyway). Like six or more shots in rapid succession. Did not hear a car squeal or anything like that. It was otherwise VERY quiet before and after the sound, as usual around here. Sounded like just a block north of Lowman Beach on 48th. Could have been someone shooting off their roof deck or in their backyard, too, but have neve rheard something like that before around here (8 years).

We drove near the scene just as the police were blocking the road and marking the bullet casings. Were blocked until we could turn around. Saw that a couple people who had been walking their dogs had witnessed whatever happened and were talking to police. I’m sure it was very scary. Thankful we didn’t arrive 10 minutes earlier.

Didn’t the Christmas Ship swing by Lowman Beach a number of years back? Sad, you have to feel nervous going about your daily life because of some dumb trigger finger idiots. Leave your weapons at home! so you won’t be tempted to use your trigger finger.

Why would criminals leave their weapons at home? Those weapons are the tools of the trade for criminals. Seattle officials need to get their act together and start making Seattle a safer place to live.
