DEVELOPMENT: West Seattle about to be craneless again

(WSB photo, last August)

Eleven months after it went up, the crane for the 4508 California SW mixed-use seven-story building is about to come down. Thanks to the tipster who shared the notice they received that parking will be off-limits on both sides of 42nd SW between Oregon and Alaska tomorrow and Wednesday for crane removal. This is the only development crane up in West Seattle and no crane-likely developments are on the immediate horizon.

Have they announced any tenants for the storefronts yet? Or how many storefronts there will be? Basic commercial vs food setup?

A tall order to take a crane down in one day

C’mon coin store (eyes closed, fingers crossed)

I really miss the one that was on the corner.

Not a great sign for a city with an incredible deficit of housing.

There are other housing projects – just not midrise like this.

According to the DJC, Seattle has the most cranes up in any city in the country currently. Clearly we’re building like crazy. Now whether it’s affordable housing is a different story.

Don’t look up look down our streets are getting damaged by the weight of the rigs hauling this multi ton construction supplies.

While its true that mass x mileage is what causes road wear, the mass of a construction crane, while huge, isnt going to have much mileage. The real road wear is still primarily from daily freight hauling semis. Also, to pre-empt anyone who is going to say it, no, its not from EVs with their heavy batteries. the incremental increase in vehicle mass is still statistically noise compared to large trucks.

Wondering if it’s true the new six story building on California (where Lee’s Asian and Kamei Sushi) were is going to include a medical facility on street level? If so, what an epic failure of city planning.

So far there’s no application for future tenant improvements.

Sorry, comment time is over.
