WEST SEATTLE WEATHER: Yes, that was thunder (and lightning!)

(Added: Photo by Lori T)

8:10 PM: It would have been hard to believe when we heard it minutes ago, except that we had just been warned by @WestSeaWx on Twitter, that “scattered thunderstorms” are drifting this way, south/southeast to north/northwest.

8:17 PM: Lightning too! This is a few hours ahead of the National Weather Service‘s note about “slight chance of thunderstorms after midnight.”

10:13 PM: Thanks for the lightning photos! The one above was sent by Satori Noël. The one below is from Scott Collins:

11:27 PM: More photos! John Skerratt sent these from Fauntleroy:

And this one’s from Aaron Brethorst:

ADDED THURSDAY MORNING: Kevin Freitas sent his skycam video:

    Nice light show over Vashon.

Thank you! I swore the flash I saw out of my peripheral vision must just have been an especially bright reflection from the tv on the window or the security light turning off and the difference catching my eye. Cool.

It’s better than the best fireworks show.

Wow!  These are fantastic pictures especially the last one – it reminds me of a climate dooms day movie.

We were at Pacific Raceways and I noticed the 1st flash as we were loading the truck onto the trailer and then all the way home there were flashes off in the western sky, never heard thunder though.  It also looked as if it had rained in the Auburn/Renton area.Isn’t nature cool!

Grew up in the mountain west where lightening was almost daily summer afternoons.  Really miss that as much as I love living here.  Such a treat when we get lightening and thunder.

We were having burgers and cocktails on the deck when we saw the weather and flashes start to roll across. After checking its path and distance on Weather Underground, we felt comfortable watching it for a spectacular evening’s entertainment.
