About the light beaming up from Lumen Field

Thanks to Troy Adams for the photo. The light beaming up from Lumen Field has drawn a lot of questions this past half-hour, and the answer seems to be that it’s in advance of The Weeknd‘s concert there tomorrow night (Thursday, August 25). Haven’t verified that, but it does bear a resemblance to the art on his webpage for the tour, which is titled After Hours Til Dawn.

P.S. Past sky-high beams of note include a Microsoft promotion in 2009.

I’m old… but I’ve never heard of this Artist “Weeknd” but just now listened to his videos and he’s good and he’s cute even to this old lady, kind of like a Lenny Kravitz cute.  :>)

I wonder what kind of impact that spotlight had on our local migrating birds:https://www.audubon.org/lights-out-program

I was more curious about impact to inbound SeaTac flights, since  Lumen Field is directly in the approach path from the north.  Coincidentally, MOST other “birds” would be largely inactive by nightfall.  That said, this weather often means approaches are from the south and perhaps NBD.  Wondering if any kind of coordination or clearance was required.

I just figured the aliens were back for a pickup. They forgot me. Again.

I thought the Seahawks are consulting with ET about the QB

“A Bird’s Voice” is right. While many birds travel do during the day, the majority of birds migrate at night. We are smack in the middle of the Pacific Flyway, which runs from S. America to the Arctic -so that means millions and millions of birds flying at night during peak migration periods. Night travel is safer for them – with the exception of tall buildings with lights on, which disorients them and causes myriad fatalities. Good point re Lumen Field.

That’s so beautiful!  We should get a couple more going and create a Cathedral of Light.
