TRAFFIC ALERT: Tree falls onto 26th SW greenway

The 26th SW neighborhood greenway is closed for a while along the block on the west side of Delridge Community Center and Playfield, because of that fallen tree. An SDOT crew is on scene clearing it out of the street. They told us some debris will be left behind to be picked up tomorrow.

Dang, was just getting ready to submit this!

Thanks – just happened to hear this clearly on the scanner, but too often things either are not dispatched via radio (SPD does a lot of screen-to-screen) or they are but we might have stepped away from the desk for an instant and missed it, so we ALWAYS appreciate the heads-up …

Sounded like an earthquake when it fell. SDOT arrived within 15 minutes of my call and started clearing the road. Hard working guys on a Monday night. The city was doing work for hours yesterday at that very tree site so guessing whatever they did caused the tree to finally fall. Hopefully they take out a few of the other trees next to this one that look like they are about to fall on someone or their car. My request is that they replace it with cherry blossoms. :)

Didn’t the same thing happen a week or two ago, but in the morning?

We were just getting ready to start on soccer game at Delridge park and all of a sudden it sounded like a bunch of fire crackers going off and then you saw the tree disappear from sight!  In the past, we had to part over there for soccer games filling up the other lots, but fortunately last night there were no parked cars there.

Sorry, comment time is over.
