Thank you to everyone who’s tipped us on this. Admiral Safeway can’t sell you frozen/refrigerated items right now because of an equipment malfunction. After several reader tips, we called to ask about the situation; the store otherwise is open, we’re told, and someone is on the way to fix the problem,
All of those cases are somehow connected when they are in different parts of the store? That’s crazy!
I’m taking this as sarcasm, unless it’s not. Seattle has lost the concept of that.
To put it simply, there are machines on the roof that run the entire refrigeration system. It isn’t like the cases are all individual units that run as stand-alones – it is a big system. One of the machines failed last night, but it has been fixed and we are currently working to get the units cold enough and the food restocked. We should be mostly back to normal in another couple of hours. Meanwhile, if a case or aisle is blocked off, please respect that. It will take longer to get back to normal if people open cases that have not yet gotten to the right temp. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
I need to make an amendment to that post – we just got an update that one of the refrigerated trucks delivering our food back to us won’t be here for an hour, and then we have to unload and stock. Meat and some cheeses are sparce due to the truck delay. We are good on milk, eggs, produce. The frozen aisles are still closed off. I’ll post when they open.
Same is happening to small local restaurants – the heat is really impacting what has been a rough nearly 2 years here in our neck of the woods. Refrigeration service people are very popular right now!
