Did SDOT hire the Keystone Kops as the construction company on this project?

In fairness, none of the gas line breaks were their fault.  This is THEIR first oops, even if it’s not the first one for the project.

I can only recall a follow-up story about 2 of at least 3 gas breaks that had a story about fault (both July breaks).   There was a water main repair back in early September (possibly related?) and the October 1 gas break that haven’t exactly been explained.

They have broken a water main four times that I am aware of. The last one I am aware of was in front of Boren, one was at Brandon and one near Genesse, not sure of location of the second one.

What is it with these contractors? There’s a gas leak every other week and now this?

      Something something lowest bid?

a follow-up to other commenters –  do the contractors who break gas lines, know over power poles, etc ever face any consequence? obviously its not intentional but these have been pretty big “oopsies”…

As a contractor the answer to your question is in general yes. Typically an accident like this is avoidable (I do not know the circumstances here) and in those cases there are fines by L&I. Specifically the gas line breaks as AMD pointed out have not been the contractors fault. The contractor had asked for gas line locations the they were unknown lines and/or miss-marked which does not fall on the contractor.

      • NemosMom October 26, 2020 (5:44 pm)

“oops”knock over” power poles…  See none of us are perfect

yes, my little spelling error that i easily recognized and corrected is exactly the same as knocking over power poles or busting gas lines…

Looking to get some tickets for the entertainment there. Anyone selling any? Which side of the street is the best view?

Sorry, comment time is over.
