UPDATE: 2 Gatewood crashes

FIRST REPORT, 10:12 PM: Thanks to Jason for the photo from a crash scene this past hour in Gatewood, in the 42100 block of SW Othello [map]. The driver is reported to have hit parked cars before crashing into a tree, and was taken to a hospital.

ADDED EARLY SUNDAY: Another crash was reported a few blocks away, at 41st/Austin, just after 10:30 pm:

The owner of a parked F-250 pickup truck that was hit and damaged sent that photo, showing blue paint from the hit-run vehicle. He says it was a “small blue car” that crashed shortly thereafter, according to the police officer who took his report.

The cut-thru 35th to California over Gatewood Hill on residential streets is a continual problem. Some drivers can’t wait for lights at Holden or Morgan which is the arterial. My neighbor’s car was totaled in his driveway – one of the casualties of the first report

With arterial speed limits today the same as residential side streets were a few years ago, there isn’t as much incentive to stay on arterials. People weren’t in the habit of staying on arterials because it’s considerate, they did it because it was faster… and now it’s less so.

The van hit this car in the driveway into the rockery. Going pretty fast I’d guess. Neighbors said about 50 mph.

That hit and run car might be a mid to late 90’s Honda Civic with what looks like a cheap aftermarket (or spray can) paint job, an aftermarket spoiler and cheap, black steel wheels.

And another crash on this same stretch last night at about 10:30. The driver hit three vehicles on his way up Webster, hit the last one so hard his airbags deployed.

Was the 41st/Austin the same driver who crashed and was (apparently) arrested at 36th/Webster? I heard at least one other car being hit on Webster west of 36th immediately before the wreck at 36th.

Sorry, comment time is over.
