BASKETBALL: West Seattle HS boys triumph over Chief Sealth IHS

11:02 PM: In the nightcap at Wsst Seattle High School, the WSHS boys finished the regular season – their first under head coach Dan Kriley – with a 67-48 victory over Chief Sealth International High School.

The lead seesawed for a while in the early going, but the Wildcats were ahead to stay by the time the first quarter ended with them ahead 14-11.

WSHS #13, senior Vladimir Salaridze (above), led all scorers with 26 points. The Seahawks had two in double digits, #4, junior Raquib Hassan, wth 14, and #1, junior Cortez Graham (below), with 11.

The second- and third-top-scoring players for West Seattle were #12, sophomore Isaiah Watts, with 9, and #3, senior Sage Nelson (below), with 8:

WSHS was up 25-19 at halftime but piled on the points in the second half. A freshman, #24 Chase Clifton, spent significant time in the mix and showed promise:

But the hearts of the big crowd belonged to the five honored in the pregame Senior Night ceremony:

Along with Nelson and Salaridze, this is the last WSHS season for #2 Abdi Jama, #11 Jacob Nadeau, and #15 Xavier Giomi. The Wildcats are expected to go into postseason play and we could find out what’s next before the weekend’s out.
