Thanks to Kay for the tip! Goats are clearing an overgrown slope by MacDonald-Miller in southeast West Seattle. While we were scoping for the photo op, a staffer told us they bring in the goats every year.
I remember the city brought in goats above Delridge and Holden and they ate up all the weeds and brush next to the stairs. It looked great for two weeks and then the all of the vegetation returned. After the goats do their thing, they should spray some pesticide to prevent future growth.
If you remove blackberries this time of year, it usually holds until spring. I learned that while fighting with them in the back yardlet for the past few years. Go, goats, go!
Yes now is a good time to remove blackberries. Make sure to pull up the roots–with the recent rains they will come up fairly easy. If you get native plants established they will shade out the blackberries and prevent them from returning. King County sells bareroot plants for cheap in March.
No. I’m sorry but you do not get to call yourself “West Seattle Hipster†while recommending they follow up the goats with pesticide. First off, you kill plants with herbicide, not pesticide. Secondly the use of either of those would not be good for the goats the following year. Of course a real hipster would know that.
HA! Was wondering how long until someone noticed “WSHipster” said to use pesticides!!!!
That’s a vicious goats eat and mow then poop and fertilize any wonder it goes back. But the do a great job on both ends
Great business model for the goat herder. Guaranteed repeat business.
Thanks WSB- loves seeing a glimpse of the herd from the First Ave South Bridge!!
I just want to know if we can get the goats and the turkey in the same photo op. Just sayin’ …
Sorry, comment time is over.
