Seen off West Seattle: Superyacht MLR

With renowned yacht builder Delta Marine nearby, we have superyacht sightings off West Seattle now and then. This morning, Jim Borrow photographed 175-foot MLR, launched by Delta earlier this year. MegaYacht News notes it docked recently downtown, and includes aerial-tour video provided by MLR’s designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett.

Toys for the mega rich. The Jones brothers that owns Delta are super nice people though and makes top of the line stuff. Maybe slightly less great nowadays since I don’t work there anymore ;-)

I watched this boat go in circles back and forth near Lowman Beach. I was thinking they were on a mission to burn fuel.

They were conducting sea trials, testing the vessel’s propulsion, steering and other operating systems.

A reminder to all that a lot of good jobs are created building, equiping and maintaining these boats.

A LOT of income tax paid too. Families grow and prosper, they buy clothes, food  etc., and and amazing number of other jobs are created, just by Boat- building, a proud, Pacific Northwest tradition and profession. Remember that.

When I was a kid my dad would take the family down to the Ballard Locks to watch boats go through.  It always seemed like the smaller boats had lots of people on them and the really big boats had very few.  Just a kids memory!
