READER REPORT: West Seattle cat found with two BB wounds

The photo and report are from Mel:

Horrible thing to report but we found last night that our cat had been shot TWICE by a BB gun somewhere near our house on 40th Ave SW and SW Brandon this week. See attached photo.

Our kitty is a very friendly cat with a gentle nature and is loved by our family including two small daughters.

Why anyone would do this astounds us. Please warn residents in our area to be vigilant with their pets and check them for puncture wounds. The vet says the shots could have happened over a period of time, so this could have been two separate incidents. We called the police so they are aware and filed a report with animal control.

Just sad that humans like that exsist.

I’m so sorry for you’re dear kitty. Ours went wandering twice recently and we were panicked, not about other animals harming her as much as twisted strangers. She doesn’t have any fear. We do.

That’s awful.  I don’t know why anyone would want to do that.  Hope kitty heals quickly.

And with what is happening to kitty kitty’s in the Olympia area very disgusting.  We keep our kitty’s in the house.

People who harm animals like that never stop there. Whoever did this is an extreme and immediate threat to the lives of everyone around them.

Mel, is your kitty OK for the long run?

  • Mel August 24, 2018 (11:13 am)

Thanks all. Yes she’s fine. $200 at the vet cleaned up the wound, pain-killers and antibiotics. We have some suspicions but will be going door to door warning people on our block to watch out. We have not told our girls (4 and 7) they would be devastated!

I am happy to hear that Mel’s cat will be ok.  I am wondering if you believe both incidents happened in your neighborhood or if the first one could have happened elsewhere (like is the cat a rescue).  I wonder because I rescued a cat from Aqua Way a few years ago that had two BBs in him and many of the cats we rescue from Eastern Washington have BBs in them.  This is not as uncommon as we would hope it to be, unfortunately.  Cats are safest inside.

PLEASE people, keep your cats inside.  They are much safer and most vets recommend it for a healthier and happier cat.  They live longer too.  It is a myth that cats need to be outside. Thanks

    Leave our pets alone!
