TRAFFIC ALERT: 3-hour wait at Fauntleroy ferry dock

Long waits on summer Friday afternoons at the Fauntleroy ferry dock aren’t unusual … but we seldom hear a Washington State Ferries warning about a three-hour wait, so we’re mentioning it here. They say events at Lincoln Park are contributing to the backlog.

I live at 46th & Rose and worked from home today. I’ve heard so many car horns today, and the north lot has been full since around noon. Cars parked all over the side streets. We’re used to this on summer weekends, but it’s a bit unusual for a Friday!

I miss the no honking days. Wasn’t that long ago.

Google Maps says that it’s a 2 hour drive around to Southworth.  Even shorter than that if your destination is Vashon and you take the Pt. Defiance ferry (which appears to have no wait).  Seems rather silly for anyone else to get in that line right now.

    Track, cross-country, meet going on.

There were swim meets at Colman Pool, too – as mentioned in our daily preview since that meant no public swimming at Colman (through tomorrow) – track meets, we don’t get notices of (although I know enough to look up the Sundodger every year) – thanks.

Drove by around Noon and noticed cars queuing up behind parked cars in the curb lane apparently unaware these cars were parking for Lincoln Park and not waiting for the ferry.  When I got to the ferry dock there was no line at the toll booths.  No easy answer since you would have to drive all the way to the dock to know it was wide open (and then drive back to the end of the line if it wasn’t). Perhaps they can install flashing lights, message boards or just have someone walking along Fauntleroy to notify ferry users to go around the parked cars and head straight to the toll booths.

My apologies. I was just informed, not track meet, but swim meet. WSB, you are correct.

There’s room for improvement in line cutting enforcement, it’s illegal now. But the state replies on citizens turning each other in vs any tickets being handed out. All that happens now is a letter is sent to the address on file for the license plate which isn’t always the driver.

Sorry, comment time is over.
