WEST SEATTLE WHALE WATCHING: Northbound orcas

9:25 AM: Last night people watched southbound resident orcas through sunset … now we are getting reports they are headed this way northbound, likely in view from Fauntleroy “soon.”

9:31 AM: At least one is already reported in view from Emma Schmitz Overlook.

10:08 AM: Thanks to commenters for updates, most recently Peter, who sees “About 6-8 orca heading northbound, mid-channel and spread out, between Blake Island marina and West Seattle.”

They passed the Arroyos area very quickly. At least one big male.

I’m watching from Me Kwa Mooks.

    Several spread out in channel.

Thank you for the updates. Getting a late re-start because of the early morning fire and won’t be able to go see for ourselves.

About 6-8 orca heading northbound, mid-channel and spread out, between Blake Island marina and West Seattle. Some tail slapping. Look for the NOAA boat trailing them by a few hundred yards.

Caught a couple of them on my iPhone! Not the best photos but was fun to see them in person :)

I just got home, but wanted to add that 2 bottlenose dolphins were seen off Constellation park around 11:20, then they turned and were parallel from shore of Alki beach, heading towards Elliott Bay around 11:35, (lots of people were watching so hopefully someone got a photo to post here).  They then proceeded to head towards Magnolia/Elliott Bay. I drove to Jack Block, but they did not come that way.  Sorry, no photos, but saw them close enough to see that these are the 2 bottlenose we’ve been seeing lately.  There are photos of one of the bottlenose dolphins on Orca Network’s Facebook page.

Amazing day today with 10-15 Orcas coming through by Bainbridge and a special treat of a porpoise headed towards the Spaceneedle!

Sorry, comment time is over.
