About last night’s mystery flash/boom

Stepping away from the scanner for a few minutes to run an errand late last night, we missed the news that many people had called in about a loud boom and flash, audible/visible from northeast West Seattle. The Seattle City Light map didn’t show any outages. But this morning via Twitter, SCL says it was indeed a power-line situation – across the Duwamish River – “a bird got into the wrong place” at East Marginal and Oregon. A one-customer outage resulted – not shown on the map, but SCL reminds us that a few areas of their service territory remain off-map – and was repaired within three hours.

I heard the boom and wondered what event was happening for someone to fire up a cherry bomb?

    Poor little hotwings!

    That boom was really LOUD.

(Grateful tho, for not having 25 minutes of screaming sirens for something.)

Happy this was something minor but hate that my mind immediately thinks, “gunshots!”

That is definitely not what a gun shot sounds like!  That was more of an explosion.

Definitely assumed M-80 and was concerned 4th of July was starting so early. Actually glad to hear it wasn’t!

What about the one around 8:30am near the Junction today? That’s what I thought I was going to read about…

Don’t know. This one eventually brought in a lot of questions … looks like we have one text about a flicker this morning … I don’t know anything more.

I live near 32nd and Juneau and someone on my street set off a single big firework at 11:00pm

Wait, I live near 35th & Juneau.  A single  really large firework actually explains what I heard better than a bird on a wire on the Duwamish (a mile away).  This was loud enough to rattle my house.  Given the inverse square law of sound diminishing, if what I heard was an explosion on the Duwamish we are talking something that would have shattered every window in pigeon Point.

Sorry, comment time is over.
