ALERT: Tangle of tape by the West Seattle Bridge

Here’s a weird one – just got two reports about this. The photo above is from Shannon Felix at Avalon GlassWorks, who reports, “Skeins of what I would think is vhs tape flying in power lines between bridge and Nucor.”

Also got a note from Holly, who reported, “Someone three black tape over the bridge and now it’s making its way into West Seattle.” We’re headed that way for a firsthand look.

As I was coming into west Seattle around 3PM, I saw a person with long hair in a black convertible, I think it was a VW, with its top down and piled high with boxes and one of the boxes fell out as I past them on the other side of the Jersey barriers. I don’t think they even realized it fell out.

It didn’t look like any of the boxes where were strapped down.

This happened right above where those power lines would be.

Just came across the Bridge and saw a City Light employee attempting to reel in the tape by hand. One lane block headed Eastbound by Nucor

OK, that explains the “City Light truck” on the eastbound bridge in a precarious spot. I suspected it might be related…

forgot about it til now; but yeh, coming home abut 3:30 and up around walking on logs, looked like black tape/ribbon everywhere

I noticed a box of what appears to be VHS tapes on the Eastbound/northbound West Seattle bridge to 99 ramp. It was everywhere this afternoon.

There was a big glob of tape along the median on the eastbound side of the bridge this morning.

@EGAN FO @ WSB : Yeah, more tapes and boxes are dumped on the EB WSB to NB SR-99 ramp. Several boxes still there this morning. That ramp is a popular garbage dumping area. The potholes and new piles garbage daily on that ramp make for a beautiful scene every morning while sitting there in traffic.

Some cameras linked to license plate readers would make a killing in littering tickets.

Noticed the other day and again tonight that a box of VHS tapes were on the side of the ramp from eastbound West Seattle Bridge to Northbound 99. I’m guessing they are connected to this report.
