TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Wednesday alerts and updates

(Four WS-relevant views; more cams on the WSB Traffic page)
7:05 AM: No incidents on routes through/from West Seattle so far.

7:51 AM UPDATE: SDOT’s newest update on greenway construction in northeast West Seattle:

On Monday, October 12, crews began installing a new storm drain system north of where 22nd Ave SW merges with 21st Ave SW, necessitating temporary lane restrictions. Flaggers are stationed at either end of the work zone to direct traffic. This work is expected to be complete in a few days. Bus zones will not be affected. Click here to view construction notice.

Crews will return at the end of October to install curb ramps, sidewalk on the west side of 21st Ave SW, and a new crosswalk just south of where 22nd Ave SW merges with 21st Ave SW.

The intersection of 21st Ave SW and SW Genesee St continues to be closed to southbound traffic while crews install new sidewalk and curb ramps. A signed detour is in effect to direct southbound traffic around the work:

· From 21st Ave SW travel east on SW Charlestown St to 20th Ave SW
· Then travel south on 20th Ave SW to SW Genesee St

Click here to view construction notice. Work hours at this intersection are 7 AM to 5 PM.

Don’t know yet what’s up on the bridge, but the 55 is crawling the last 2 blocks on Avalon. Of course, that wouldn’t happen if cars got the hell out of the bus only lane …

It seemed slower at the usual bottlenecking places with a few more cars in the bus only lanes than usual. I was on the #57 leaving California/Admiral at 6:55 AM and we managed to slog through it with plenty of honking.

Yes. Traffic is crawling. We decided to give up. We pulled over to linger over coffee. Waiting for traffic to clear.

Yesterday I commented on the number of people driving the wrong way down Andover when traffic is backed up from the Delridge light to the corner by the gym. Well…. apparently that’s the new normal.

And after all that crawling along on Avalon, the bridge seemed its normal busy self, and no events to speak of. So not sure why it was so bottlenecked getting on.

The lower bridge was closed at 7:30 this morning. Could easily be the cause of the Admiral/Avalon bottleneck getting on to the bridge.

FYI – The links within SDOT’s text do not work. One is pointing to the C drive and the other to Soapdish, whatever that is. I’m guessing the links were copied from SDOT along with the text.

Sorry about that, yes, I rightclicked on the e-mail they sent, which was to an entire mailing list, not just us. I’ll see if I can find the real links. – TR

Seems like the past few weeks there has been a major bottleneck on Delridge getting on the bridge, and from what I can tell there are no apparent reasons other than the timing of the light at Andover. It is now starting to back up to Hudson St on a regular basis, and taking about 10 mins to get from there that location on to the bridge. Once past that light there is the usual traffic but nothing that should create this ongoing backup on Delridge.

Maybe people are diverting from 35th since teh change to Delridge, and that is creating the extra traffic.

it’s weird the traffic on Andover has been so bad lately but it seems to relate to low bridge being closed?

Sorry, comment time is over.
