EARTHQUAKE: Did you feel it? 4.0 magnitude this afternoon

Did you feel it? We heard from one person south of Alki Point who said they did – a 4.0-magnitude earthquake at 3:22 this afternoon, epicenter east of North Bend. Lots of info here – and if you DID feel it, tell the scientists by filling out this form. The quake gives us a reason to remind you that September is Preparedness Month – and at the very least, you need to know where your nearest Emergency Communication Hub is.

I’m across from Alki Elementary. I felt slight shaking, figured it was construction nearby or something, and didn’t worry about it. 10 minutes later I saw the news report about the earthquake.

I happened to be at a radio gathering with several members of the West Seattle Amateur Radio Club. We were East of North Bend, and about 2 miles South of the epicenter. Not a ton of ground movement, but it sounded like a freight train going by for about 5 seconds.

I felt it near Alki Elementary. Thought it was just a big truck going by our house.

Don’t think I felt it, but about that time while I was deep inside my work building and wondered what would fall and how would I get out. Always good to know your exits.

WSB already linked to some of their specifics, but they deserve a clearer credit. Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network: pnsn.org is your source for all things earthquaky

YES! My first earthquake here, I was on my bed and it felt like my building got one big shift, like a person backed into the side. I looked outside and no one was doing anything odd so I didn’t know what to think. This is at alki beachfront

YES; in Admiral/Belvidere; I did feel it, and wondered; thanks for the alert; and glad that’s all it was; I’ve been through many earthquakes, so was nervous for a moment

@Guy Olson … BEST line of the day. Well played.

Felt it on alki! Was sitting on my bed and it felt like a dog jumped up on the bed. But alas no dog.

I felt it here in Queen Anne while laying in bed trying to take a nap. It was only like 2 seconds and I wasn’t moving but I surely felt my bed moving slightly and then it stopped. Afterwords I immediately went to twitter and saw others posting they felt an earthquake. It was so quick and so slight that depending on where you were or what you were doing at the time it could have easily not have been noticed by most people.

We felt a jolt for a few seconds in Renton. No damage.

  • Beth September 13, 2015 (7:50 am)

I felt it in Admiral. I’m a CA native who has been through many earthquakes, both big and small. I was sitting very still when it happened, which is the only reason I felt it.

  • junctioneer September 13, 2015 (9:20 am)

Yes, both of us felt it in North Admiral. Pretty small. Sounded like someone was walking around the house, and a paper wreath on the wall swung a little.

Sorry, comment time is over.
