West Seattleite scene: Eddie Vedder’s concert T-shirt

(Friday night photo by Amy Allen)
That photo is from Friday night’s Pearl Jam concert at KeyArena downtown, and it has a bit of a backstory! First, while checking Twitter that night, we noticed some pointing out that lead singer Eddie Vedder was showing off some West Seattle (his longtime neighborhood) pride – Stephanie called it directly to our attention:

We looked around for a photo but couldn’t find one until Alia told us via Facebook about one she had seen via Instagram. We contacted the photographer, a Pearl Jam superfan from Des Moines, Iowa, named Amy Allen, for permission to publish her photo here, and she said yes. By day, in fact, Amy is a professional photographer, though she was at the show as a fan equipped only with an iPhone – the 71st time she has seen Pearl Jam in concert, she told us. She’s on Instagram at @amyallenphoto.

P.S. Thought we recalled seeing the same shirt at CAPERS in The Junction; their FB page confirms it.

Because their tour was over, the band played an extra hour in Seattle the other nite. He is such a humble guy and man can he put on a show. If Eddie ends up reading this, our hearts broke and you silenced the crowd in Portland last weekend when you spoke of your dying friend. We’ve prayed for him ever since and although he will pass soon, Im so sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing his story. You’re a wonderful person. Seattle is grateful to have you as their own.

West Seattle rocks. It’s wonderful to know one of the worlds best known bands are right here. Pearl Jam also gives back to a number of great causes and I admire the band for giving back.

Welcome home after another great tour! Love that all the guys in the band are so grounded and not caught up in who they are. Very refreshing when you see the ego’s in play of some of the other rock and rap stars.
Eddie hope you have a warm suit for getting back on the board!
    BTW,
A good sized pod of Orca’s came by the other day, wondering where you were.

I saw Eddie and PJ in Portland last weekend. It was an amazing and unforgettable show, they played close to 3 hours, but I wish I could have seen them here at home, too. Great to see Eddie rocked a West Seattle T shirt. Another band member had a Hauschka jersey on. We are so lucky Seattle is Pearl Jam’s home!

That was my first Pearl Jam concert, and I must admit, I’m still floating a little bit. It was fantastic. Eddie and Co left nothing in the bag. They gave everything they had and then some. I feel so fortunate to have experienced it, oh and BTW, we were seated behind the stage and it was still incredible! Thank you Eddie and friends for giving this relatively recently relocated Midwesterner the time of her life!!!

    Hi again.

You’re welcome. I too was very excited to see that Eddie chose this shirt to wear at the show, at Key Arena. Just very cool and very sweet.

Amy Allen (@amyallenphoto) has many excellent photos on Instagram of this Pearl Jam show (and others) and her visit to Seattle, definitely worth checking out :)

Eddie rocks! Kris Brown of West Seattle gave this to him at the San Francisco concert two weeks ago. Thanks Caper’s for selling them…need another size medium!

Both the Portland and Seattle shows were amazing. The band played three hours at both, and they threw out a few unexpected songs. Amazing as always!

They tore the roof off Key Arena on Friday and I was jumping up and down in the pit when I saw the word WEST peeking over Eds button. Welcome back friend, your live shows keep me buzzing for days. Proud to call you neighbor!

CAPERS is indeed the only place to get this shirt . We have an order of shirts coming this week, get your name on the list for one, they have become very popular. Thanks Eddie for representing!

It was an incredible show!!! Didn’t want it to end. I thought it was a West Seattle shirt and screamed louder and smiled even more when Eddie took off the jacket! Great night!!!

Didn’t make it, haven’t yet, should some day. Eddie is a pretty mild cat, have seen him in WS a time or two. Once at Husky Deli, which at first I thought he was taller, my wife was working there then, and said ” yes, it’s him” I went over to him, as he was barking and laughing with some friends, as they were buying a wheel of cheese for a birthday cake. As I stood next to him, I asked him ” So Eddie, you know Mike Meirer do ya ?” To which he answered with a questionable sense ” Yeah, why, were we to loud?” I told him no, but I grew up down the street from Mike and to tell him hi. Plus, we saw him at a local baseball field, just as I was talking local rock n roll with a mom, and low n behold, Eddie and family get out of their ride, and walk into the park. I told my oldest son, that he was there, and if he wanted to, go up to him politely, and just say hi. At the time my son was about 9, and he walked over, said hi, shook his hand, told Edfie he enjoyed his music, and Eddie was kind in his response. My son was thrilled. He could claim meeting Eddie, and another time meeting Kevin Martin at my brother’s house.
Friday nights show had some other WS rockers in the crowd too, like Rod Moody and Jon Sleight. I bet there even more. Must have been a blast !

Love this band, amazing show. I noticed this shirt the second he took the stage and was thrilled as Capers is one of my favorite local stores.

  • Katie December 9, 2013 (8:40 am)

I was at the show with my sister (we are both W. Seattlites and pretty much PJ groupies) and I called it during the opening song (Pendulum) as I could see the green “E” & S” peeking out from the button up he had over it: “Ed is wearing the shirt from Capers”…These guys are amazing and so down to earth. What would have put me over the edge was if Jeff Ament (who I saw last year at Alki Mail & Dispatch) was wearing the Alki shirt they sell there!

What an amazing show!! I am certain this was the best concert of my life. We were rocking up front, Mike’s side. If I had a cup I could have tasted that giant bottle of wine Eddie was passing around! I loved hearing about the story of the 3 people who were saved by the 7 year old girl and her dad. Eddie, we all are so proud that you were representing West Seattle! Eddie gave a nice shout out to Matt Vaughn @ Easy Street (one of my favorite places, ever, on the planet). Oh and to Mudhoney: I LIKE IT SMALL!!!

  • Alki Bee December 9, 2013 (1:08 pm)

Saw the shirt in Alki Mail & Dispatch, too.

  • Michele Allen December 9, 2013 (9:48 pm)

I’m another San Dieguito High classmate (Class of 82). Another epic Pearl Jam show. Here’s a band that keeps moving to higher and higher levels of mastery of their craft. And they still put on a awesome high energy rock show. Great music, amazing people. You did good Eddie!

‘m so glad I was able to experience that fantastic night with Pearl Jam @Key last Friday.
I moved all the way from Tokyo because of their music. I saw them in Tokyo way back in ’93 or 94, and moved to San Francisco. I flew from there to see Pearl Jam @Key Area back in ’96. My life has changed quite bit since then. Got married, divorced, went to school, trying to make life with two kids, my ex.husband’s death……Going to shows was not an option for me for a long time. I’m so glad I was able to get to see them! I didn’t even know Eddie was living here in West Seattle for all those times while I was trying to make it here in W.S. with kids for 12 yrs!! How cool is that!
Their music helped me to go through the rough time, and I’m so proud of being the big fan of Pearl Jam for all those years. : )
I wish someday, I could run into him somewhere in W.Seattle! Pearl Jam helped me a lot. Thank you!

Sorry, comment time is over.
