High-school sports: WSHS swimmer qualifies for state

Congratulations to West Seattle High School sophomore Gabby Carufel, who qualified Saturday night for 3A state competition in the 100-yard backstroke. The report and photo are from Gabby’s proud mom Danette Carufel. The girls’ championships begin Friday night with preliminaries at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

You wouldn’t omit the final score when reporting about a football or baseball win. Speaking as a former swimmer, I implore you to include a finish time when reporting about swim meet events.

Nothing has been “omitted” here. This is every shred of info I have. If you found the meet (or other event) results online, I’d be happy to add them; I looked multiple places, and in the end, just had to go with “Gabby’s going to state.” I am very thankful to her mom and the other parents who have taken time in the past year or so to share info on sports including football, soccer, golf, and swimming from time to time … it is almost impossible to consistently find results, and while we do our best to run hither and yon covering news and sports of all types, we can’t be everywhere. I do believe that the state results WILL be online, via the page to which I linked here, and we will be tracking Gabby and anyone else local who we find out is going to state – TR

As a former swimmer too I looked up the qualification time for 3A. She has to do a 1:02:90.

Sorry, comment time is over.
