West Seattle Crime Watch: 6 reader reports; Lincoln Park safety-walk reminder

Six West Seattle Crime Watch reader reports to share from the past few days, plus new details about the WS Crime Prevention Council‘s Lincoln Park Safety Walk next Tuesday night. We start with Katie‘s report of a Highland Park burglary:

Sometime between 6:30 am and 5:00 pm on Thursday (May 23rd), there was an attempted burglary on the 7700 block of 11th Ave SW [map]. The (burglar/s) attempted to enter the home through a window. Police were notified when the occupant of the home returned after work.

Two Admiral-area car prowls – first, Charise‘s car was broken into Thursday night:

I am in a condo in the Admiral area at California/Walker (map). Car was parked in an unsecured garage. Window broken in and some frame damage.

Then last night, someone broke into Jen‘s car:

Car title, registration and insurance cards were taken.

Our neighborhood has been hit a few times this month. 39th Ave SW in the Admiral area.

Just putting out an FYI for people. We filed a police report in case of ID theft from the items they took.

Even if nothing had been taken – police want and need to hear about these cases, so they can assign patrol resources to the areas that need them most; if you don’t tell them, they don’t know.

Next, two prowler reports – first one is from Steve:

I live on 38th Ave SW between Willow St. and Warsaw St. [map] I am writing this to let you know that at approximately 12:15 in the morning on 5/25, my wife and I were watching a movie in our room when we heard footsteps on our deck. This is very concerning as there is only one way onto my deck from the front of the house and it is not easy to find. By the time I got outside the intruder had gone back the way they came and was nowhere to be found. I searched the outside of our home and make sure the cars were ok and everything seemed in order. I also contacted our block watch to report the incident. I am wondering if anyone else had reported a house prowler early (Saturday) morning.

Someone was either prowling or lost in Highland Park around 4:30 pm Friday afternoon – an anonymous tipster says his security camera recorded someone on his property off the alley between 13th and 14th SW south of Holden (map):

Large full backpack, on a bicycle, camo pants, blue pullover jacket or sweatshirt, shaved or short grey hair, about 5’8″ or 9″, white male approx 40-50 years old.

Enters my property from the driveway, scopes out property, clearly spots the security camera, decides to move on, glancing again at camera as he leaves.

Just passing this info on in case anyone else experienced trouble around this area and time.

Final reader-report note – we’ve received reports of street racing on West Marginal Way the past two nights, and have advised the tipsters to be sure to report it to police

LINCOLN PARK SAFETY WALK: West Seattle Crime Prevention Council president Richard Miller says the 7 pm safety walk this coming Tuesday (May 28th) will include representatives from Seattle Police and Parks. Meet at the north parking lot; he says, “This is a great opportunity for people that use the park to express any safety concerns with city officials. We will be reviewing the concerns and observations of the walk at our June 18th meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend this event. If someone is unable to attend the walk, they can leave a message on our blog and we will try to address their concern.”

I just saw my neighbor who said a box was ripped open from her porch and all the stuffing thrown around and the garbage can had been gone thru…I saw a suspicious couple walk by my window in our shared duplex about 5:00 pm, and wondered what they were up to…when I described them to the neighbor, she looked in the alley between 61st and 62sw between Admiral and the beach and we saw 1 of the party who walked by, acting kind of wierd walking from side to side of the alley..I tried to find her after I hung up from calling 911 but she was gone. Be careful of anything you put in your car in the alley or on your back porch..keep an eye out. It was a young couple around 20-24, white, she had scraggley long reddish hair, he had a blue baseball cap and a short beard growout, He was a little shorter than her. She had on a sleeveless tank type top.Whatever they took from the FedEx box on the neighbors porch is gone…we don’t know what it was. Be vigilant!

“…Car title, registration and insurance cards were taken….”
Prime ID theft materials, title of ownership was a bonus for them. Too late now, not meant to be a “told you so,” but as a recommendation for others: *Never* keep the car’s title of ownership in the car.

From the meetings I’ve been to with block watch and crime prevention council the police have stressed the importance of reporting all crimes and anything suspicious. So often an isolated incident might not be enough to catch a thief, but many eyes reporting whatever they’re seeing, even if it just seems suspicious, is important. They’ll decide the priority when you call 911.

Just now, 11:24pm on Sunday 5/26, heard two loud “pops” coming from the vicinity of California and Genesee. Anyone else hear them?

Fireworks, per police. Been monitoring this one via scanner, and corresponding via text with a couple people who heard them.

Yesterday morning at 2:30am near 38th and Hanford I watched 2 cyclists ride by my house. One on an older road bike and one on a BMX bike. The road bike rider was fairly tall and the BMX rider a bit shorter (he also had a full back pack on).

They rode North on 38th at a very slow speed. So slowly that I decided to step out of my house to let them know they were being watched.

They picked up their pace at that point. The older taller rider said to his friend (fairly loud) “I wonder which direction he went”.

The man described in the quote excerpted from the WSB Crime Watch Report and then pasted below appears to be the same person roaming around Puget Ridge and North Delridge. It is suspected that he may be living in the green belt near Pigeon Point and Pathfinder Elementary. Word is that he was thrown out of his elderly parents house.
