Police incident on the bridge

1:46 PM: Thanks to those who have messaged us about something unfolding on the high-rise bridge a short time ago – we’ve heard both that police briefly blocked the eastbound bridge, and that someone was seen walking on that side of the bridge. There is no medic response anywhere in the vicinity currently; cameras suggest traffic is flowing normally right now. We’ll add anything we find out.

2:43 PM: Still no official information, aside from this tweet via the SPD automated feed:

We were first in line behind the cops. As we passed the last light on Fauntleroy, a cop came from behind with lights. Let him pass, but he wasn’t going very fast. As we came around the right curve onto the bridge, saw a second cop already blocking the right lane about 30′ behind a man walking east along the right edge of the road. The second cop pulled up in the left lane alongside and they both stopped and blocked the road. First one was on the speaker telling the guy to stop, put his hands up and turn around, multiple times. He finally did.

He wasn’t complying very well, kept reaching into his jacket pockets and into the back of his shorts as he was slowly walking towards the cops. They finally approached him, cuffed him, emptied his pockets (including what looked like a near empty fifth of liquor), and put him in the back of one of the cruisers. Whole thing lasted maybe 5 minutes tops.

Glad they got that fellow off the bridge. I called 911 to have someone check on him. Thought he might have been suicidal.

Sorry, comment time is over.
