TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Foggy Wednesday

(Live view from the east-facing WS Bridge camera; see other cameras on the WSB Traffic page)
Foggy and chilly this morning – slow going, by all accounts.

Otherwise, same 2 ongoing traffic alerts as Monday – Delridge closed southbound between Trenton and Henderson for repaving, and southbound 99 closing again 10 pm-5 am from downtown to the bridge for the SODO overpass project.

7:32 AM: Warning from Dan via Twitter, especially for bike riders:

I’m fairly new around here. What area does Triangle refer to? Thanks

    • WSB January 16, 2013 (8:02 am)

Don’t have a map handy but the Triangle is basically the area bounded by Fauntleroy from Alaska to the bridge, 35th between the bridge and Alaska, Alaska from 35th to Fauntleroy.

    Thank you WSB!!

The DOT should be out there on days like this putting de-icer, sand, or any other substance that will remove the ice and slickness from the roads. It’s almost as bad as a snow day.

    • WSB January 16, 2013 (8:19 am)

ECC – they might have been – they tend to send the trucks out overnight. We were behind one on 99 and the bridge last Saturday night. It’s supposed to be icing prevention, not icing removal – but I’ll check w/SDOT.

Whatever the SDOT is using, it isn’t working

It was super slick riding down Avalon this morning – cyclists take care. East side of the lower bridge was very frosty as was north E. Marginal bike lane and the shared use path between King/Royal Brougham.

Did anybody ride the #50 into SODO this morning? I’ve been curious if Metro reroutes that bus so that it doesn’t have to slide down Genesee when the rest of Metro isn’t on snow route. It’s scary to think what that hill was like this morning!

I think SDOT does a great job putting de-icer on the bridge. I guess they can’t get to the other streets, but the bridge has been ice-free so far this winter.

  • Mike Lindblom January 16, 2013 (10:10 am)

The SDOT’s de-icer worked great on Fauntleroy around the Nucor Steel mill curve — remember the ’80s,’90s and early ’00s when it always iced over and caused crashes? And on the high bridge itself. Dismayed to hear that Avalon was slick, hopefully the city is reading the thread and tackles Avalaon tomorrow.

I did have to put the clutch into first gear down the steep hill from Charlestown to Alki, but wouldn’t expect the city to reach every single street with salt brine.

    Good luck neighbors!

WOW! 2:40 rapid ride bus is packed again headed to west Seattle. Lots of elderly hoping someone gives up their seat.

The bridge was fine, however, 35th Ave SW was very slick and that’s a main drag.

Sorry, comment time is over.
