TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: November’s last Monday

(Live view from the only WS Bridge camera currently in operation; see other cameras on the WSB Traffic page)
Especially if you’re just plugging back in after the long holiday weekend, three notes:

‘BIKE BOX’ IN PLACE ON ANDOVER WEST OF DELRIDGE: Here’s our Sunday afternoon report about the just-installed road feature.

GATEWOOD SPEED CAM TO START TICKETING: Today’s the day the grace period for the camera in the school zone on Fauntleroy near Gatewood Elementary is officially over, per the city.

ROAD WORK TO RESUME: Today is also the day the county is to resume work in Westwood related to the Route 120 bus line.

ADDED 10:30 AM: Emergency crews are responding to an incident that’s on the 911 log as “Northbound I-5 at Spokane,” so if you’re experiencing eastbound bridge, or I-5 in the area, slowness, that might be it.

ADDED 2:44 PM: The above-mentioned road work in Westwood is now pushed back another two weeks.

ADDED 4:51 PM: Metro will be out in four West Seattle locations to talk with bus riders – details here.

5:36 PM: If you’re headed down 1st through SODO to get to the West Seattle Bridge – Jana reports a crash – so it might be slower going than usual.

Is there any update on route 50 (inbound to west seattle) and when the temporary re-route will end? I am so looking forward to catching the 50 on delridge instead of under the bridge. Thanks!

Michelle – The work on the Genesee/Avalon signal (what Metro/SDOT says is needed for the full planned route) is proceeding – if you go by there, you’ll notice parts of the signal poles on the corners have been installed – I haven’t checked for a progress report lately, but should do so this week – TR

Added to main story but in case you miss it elsewhere – Metro reps will be out at four spots along the RapidRide route tomorrow morning (Tuesday):

After talking with SDOT and the contractor, the Route 120 work at Southwest Barton Street and 26th Avenue Southwest now is tentatively scheduled to start Dec. 10. I’ll see if there is an update on the Route 50 efforts.

Just got your announcement on Barton/26th and published it elsewhere while adding the link here. Thanks! – Tracy

can someone please explain why route 50 goes a block out of the way instead of turning directly right onto california from admiral? it turns left on 44th (by 7-eleven), then right on college then right on california. Seems pointless if you ask me.

  • Jeff Switzer, King County Metro November 26, 2012 (5:38 pm)

Jane, There is a turning radius issue for buses there, so until changes are made Route 50 eastbound makes those additional turns as a “reroute.” See our route map: http://metro.kingcounty.gov/cftemplates/show_map.cfm?BUS_ROUTE=050&DAY_NAV=WSU

Jeff, as long as the route 50 is on that “temporary” reroute in the Admiral District, is there any chance that the (leftover 128) stop at College & California could be designated as a legitimate 50 stop? Most of the drivers will stop there to pick up people, but there’s one who won’t. I emailed Metro three weeks ago to ask about this, but haven’t received a reply.

Sorry, comment time is over.
