Services set for former West Seattleite Gerald Lutz, killed in crash

One of the brothers killed in a motorcycle crash earlier this week had West Seattle ties, as a former WS resident and parent of a student at Alki Elementary. Services are planned this weekend for 39-year-old Gerald Lutz, who along with brother Eldon Lutz died after their motorcycle crashed in Kirkland Saturday night. His online obituary published by Bonney-Watson on Capitol Hill includes details on Mr. Lutz’s viewing/Rosary on Friday night and celebration of life on Saturday.

Gerald was a very involved Dad who was seen frequently up at his son’s school participating in field trips, school events, etc. He had a lot of friends due to his genuine personality, great sense of humor and other “good person” qualities. Just an all around nice guy. His passing leaves a lot of holes and sadness for those who knew him. Prayers to his son and family.

For those who know the family, Camp Erin is a wonderful resource for children suffering from a loss. It is run by the Moyer Foundation. When teh family is ready, it might be a helpful suggestion for the kids.

I am glad this was posted. Gerald was my old coworker and friend. He was one of the kindest people I have ever known and was an amazing father to his son. He will be greatly missed.

Alice, Mark and I have Daniel in our thoughts. What a loss. He is missed greatly at school. We wish him the best as he deals with the loss of a wonderful father and uncle. We have had the pleasure of getting to both Daniel’s mother as well as his stepmother. Our hearts go out to them.

Thank you for publishing this. I know the date is passed. I was just going through Gerald’s email in box…and saw this alert. I just wanted to chime in that he loved living in West Seattle. He loved Seattle and the Pacific Northwest. He participated in so many of the good things we have in our beautifil region to take advantage of whether food, the arts, the recreation…we live in a beautiful place and he took advantage of it. When we met, he lived on Alki Ave. What a great place to be on or near. It was a wonderful place for Daniel to spend some of his younger years as well. Gerald would often tell me things going on that he found out through the West Seattle Blog. He always stayed connected to peopke and places he loved. Thank you for recognizing his connection this place where he always had a piece of his heart. Our last morning was actually spent in West Seattle. We took Rufus to his annual at the West Seattle VCA (wonderful place and staff that we always appreciated), then went for coffee at Met Market on Admiral before we headed home then split up to do some separate errands that afternoon. I am glad he had one more morning in the old hood. Take care everyone – of each other and your space. love to all of you who took time to write. Rachel
