West Seattle Weather Watch: Burn ban canceled; snow update

10:36 AM: The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has just canceled the burn ban that’s been in effect the past few days – no surprise given the rain and wind, of course, but just in case you’ve been longing to get the fireplace/woodstove going, there’s your green light. Meantime, the forecast continues to include a possibility that the rain showers will turn to snow showers – possibly this afternoon; so far, no word of morning snow sightings.

11:35 AM: The snow has hit the north end, according to multiple reports – Fremont, Woodland Park Zoo among the areas mentioning it. Headed this way? We’re on watch. The National Weather Service has issued a “short-term forecast” focused on north King/south Snohomish counties.

It doesn’t feel that cold out there. I’m looking at some blue skies from my living room in West Seattle.

When I was headed southbound on the 5 about 15 minutes ago, it was snowing through Shoreline and Northgate. It turned into rain around the U District. I-5 north traffic looked TERRIBLE.

Love these convergence zones! It’s also apparently snowing in Bellevue – but I have lovely sunshine streaming in my windows here by Lincoln Park!

Snow has stopped here in North Seattle by Bitter Lake.
    Sky is brightening.
Still snow laying on parked cars, trees, sidewalks (slushy).
    Street is clear now.

Hey guys, so it looks like we are actually going to be getting precip enhancement behind the initial trough and the atmosphere in the mid levels is very unstable and as such, the precip will increase later tonight and thunder snow could occur with the next organized band of showers as they begin to roll through the area.

And there is now the increasing possibility that a Winter Storm Watch could be issued for the Monday night/Tuesday morning time frame as the newest NAM output is going the way of previous NAM runs as well as being in agreement with the ensemble members from the WRF-GFS.

So after tonight and tomorrow, the next time frame to be concerned with is the Monday night/ Tuesday morning period.
